TOP TWENTY Scoreboard for 2019

January 18, 2020

ANNOTATIONS FOR YEAR-END SCOREBOARD 2019
  • The top score for all of 2019, like in 2018, happened in February! In 2019 that all-year high took place on the night of the third annual Trivial Awards, as Not One, Not Two, Not Three, Not Five… Four Gregs, also known as Smartly Pretty, both won the award for Artistic Direction in Team Naming and scored 232 points at Hitch on February 11th! This is still to date the second highest score all-time for Hitch, and ninth highest score all-time at any Trivia Club event! Appearance for appearance, it was a wonderfully successful year for the duo!
  • The second highest score of the year also took place at Hitch, with the Fighting Mongooses ending July 22nd with 208 points!
  • The third highest score of the year, and highest score at Farside for 2019, belongs with 2 Fast 2 Curious who scored 206 points on June 19th! In 2018, 2 Fast 2 Curious had ended the year with the second highest score, and interestingly the Fighting Mongooses had clocked the third highest score.
  • The fourth highest score of the year also belongs to the Fighting Mongooses, and is the highest score for a team who did not win on the night. The Fighting Mongooses finished runners-up with 200 points at Hitch on February 11th to Four Gregs at the third annual Trivial Awards!
  • Though they are Trivia Club’s winningest team with 69 VHS Championships, the Cunning Stunts only won a single event in 2019. The Cunning Stunts were able to score 196 points on August 14th at Farside, for the win, leaving Team Name as runners-up on the night with the eighteenth highest score of the year of 172 points. The Stunts scored 179 points on May 1st as runners-up to the brand new Grand Champs 2 Fast 2 Curious, who finished the night with 188 points, good for the eighth highest score of 2019.
  • In total the 2019 Golden VCR Grand Champs of Trivia Club, 2 Fast 2 Curious made three appearances (3rd, 8th, 11th) on the 2019 Top Twenty Scoreboard, tied with the Fighting Mongooses (2nd, 4th, 10th) and the Smartly Pretty pair of Matt & Pat (1st, 7th, 13th) who also made three appearances as Four Gregs, Friendly Friends, and Tech-no-logical Ro-mance!
  • Cookiefaced finished 2019 with not only the highest score for The Rec Room Roundhouse of the year, but with new all-time mark at The Rec Room! They scored 185 points on September 17th, on their way to winning the second-annual Roundhouse Royale! Cookiefaced is also one of four teams to have made two appearances on the Scoreboard of 2019, alongside their friendly rivals at The Rec Room, The Questionables, as well as Wookiee and the Cunning Stunts!
  • With so many teams making multiple appearances, the outliers for the 2019 Top Twenty High Scores are the two teams that only make one appearance a piece. The Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes scored 176.5 points at Hitch on July 22nd for the runner-up spot, one of three runners-up in the Top Twenty, though they would also win a Golden VHS on the year as well.
  • Vampire Weekend at Bernie’s make their sole appearance on the Top Twenty, and the sole appearance for any M. Night Shaym-Alien related team, with 172 points on the second last event of 2019 on December 18th at Farside.
  • The twenty-first highest score, the highest score for a team not featured on the Year End Scoreboard belongs to 2 Fast 2 Curious, who scored 168 points at Farside on August 7th. 2 Fast 2 Curious would also grab the twenty-second and twenty-third highest scores of 2019!
  • At Black Lab Brewing we had our first TIE on the east end of the city, and with that two teams who hold the high score for 2019 but only one team that walked away with the Golden VHS! Les Quizerables and FAHTBOPH both scored 126 points on November 21st, but it was FAHTBOPH who were declared the winners!
  • September is the highest scoring month in terms of appearances on the Top Twenty, with three, while March is the only month that is not represented on the Scoreboard for 2019. The highest score for March was the 152.5 by Fuck Billy Zane at Farside on March 6th.
  • Eight each of the Top Twenty High Score for 2019 came from teams competing at Hitch and Farside, while the other four teams competed at The Rec Room Roundhouse.
  • Outside of the Top Twenty, and outside of Toronto, the top score for 2019 at The Rec Room Masonville in London, Ontario took place at the last event of the year at that location, on December 10th, with Technically Correct scoring 150 points. At The Rec Room Square One in Mississauga, Ontario the highest score was 145 points from Walt Quizney on September 3rd. PCM ALS scored the highest score in Alberta in 2019, with 126 points on October 29th at The Rec Room South Commons in Edmonton, while The Rec Room West Ed's highest score for the year took place on October 8th, when The Pickles scored 78 points. The Rec Room Avalon, our newest location, also had their highest score of the year on October 8th when Drunk Quiztory scored 158 points for the highest score outside of Toronto!
  • For the high scores inside of Toronto, at our limited edition locations for 2019, The Ace ended a 19 event run with The Undefeatable Cheat-ahs scored 94 points on February 27th for the high score for 2019! Speaking of diners, the Thompson Diner saw Team B.S. notch 134 points at the second and final event on September 19th
  • The Mean Team of 2019, the team on the Scoreboard with the High Score closest to the board average of 188 points, were 2 Fast 2 Curious with the eighth highest score of the year of 188 points on May 1st at Farside.
