W hat a way to close off February at the Original Home of the Greatest Game Show in Toronto, then with the doubling down of all things great about Trivia Club at Cardinal Rule! Not only were the Cunning Stunts looking to become the second team to threepeat at Cardinal Rule, but the first team to do so at two separate locations! Also, with the return of Karen from Finance as Todd from Accounting, our Linear Championship Belt was also on the line! So it was a host of legacy teams that joined us, both recently appointed and long-time members of the Club, to make it a memorable occasion... and was it ever!

Trivia Classic, more then anything, established how close of a race this night would become with David Bowie's Corporate Whores establishing an early lead on the field! Just two points behind them however were the repeat Champs at Cardinal Rule looking for the threepeat, Trivia Club's winningest team of All-Time, the Cunning Stunts! Within five points from the lead were the M. Night Shaym-Aliens, just three appearances away from their 100th, in third! Just two points behind the Shaym-Aliens were Last Place Team, who themselves held a point and a half advantage on the Occasional Champions! Rounding out the field were Carnage, who represented one half of Lt. Dance, the returning Linear Champions Karen from Finance as Todd from Accounting, and Team Name!

Game Show Games then burst forward with Todd from Accounting grabbing the first TOP TEN in Countdown Takedown, and Last Place Team getting eight points, while Team Name nabbed six points, the DB's CW and the Cunning Stunts rounded out the four and two spots! In Survey Says, it was the Cunning Stunts going from two to the TOP TEN, while Todd from Accounting, Last Place Team, and David Bowie's Corporate Whores once again picked up points! Jumping into C-C-Combo Breakdown, Last Place Team had made up ground on the top two teams, while Todd from Accounting had jumped all the way up from seventh to a solid fourth spot, doubling their score in the first two Game Show Games! The Breakdown took down the Occasional Champions immediately, with a single word, causing them to be the only team blanked in round two, before festivities eventually rounded down to Last Place Team, the M. Night Shaym-Aliens, and David Bowie's Corporate Whores... with Last Place Team being the LAST TEAM STANDING for SIXTEEN POINTS! With that, Last Place Team had leapt past the David Bowie's and the Cunning Stunts for the lead before Tri-Pardo!

Tri-Pardo saw the first question be rolled for five points, the second question get seventeen points on the icosahedron, and third question get a ten point roll for a possible thirty-two point round three take! Due to a tricky second question however, no team escaped from Tri-Pardo without losing at least two points, except for Team Name, with Todd from Accounting and Last Place Team getting the worst of it to the tune of a twelve point loss each, and Carnage taking a seventeen point hit! With that sudden shake-up, heading into the Finale, the field had suddenly condensed and Last Place Team's lead had evaporated, leaving them TIED with David Bowie's Corporate Whores for first... while the Cunning Stunts were one point behind, potentially one too many for a threepeat.

Finale wagering was a mixture of all in and standing pat, save for one team... the Last Place Team, who in leaving five point behind seem to have also lost an opportunity at a tie-breaker for the Golden VHS, because in leaving five points on the board the Last Place Team finished in third on this night... by five points! The runners-up by two points, the same number of points that separated the two teams after the first round, were the Cunning Stunts... so very close from threepeating in February, just as they had at Lou Dawgs two years ago to the month! The Champions on the night...

at Hitch: The Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes, February 22nd 2017 TRIVIA CLUB CHAMPS

O n the Family Day edition of Trivia Club It was an intimate affair, with three teams going head-to-head-to-head and one of them looking to repeat as Golden VHS Champs, as the other two teams were looking for their first ever win!

After Trivia Classic, it was newcomer Scorpion Soup for the Soul with the advantage over the field with two and a half points on Steve & Chris II (yes, making THEIR first Trivia Club appearance as well) and a three and a half point advantage on the returning Champs now with more Robb, The Phenomenal Pholks Phrom Laramie Cigarettes! This led to a topsy turvy section round of Game Show Games which saw the leaders Scorpion Soup grab a further advantage with the TOP TEN in Countdown Takedown and the top eight in a difficult to nail down Survey Says! Still, the Good Folks from Laramie weren't far behind with a full fourteen points after the first two games, while Steve & Chris II could only grab six in Countdown Takedown! Finally in the C-C-Combo Breakdown it was a real back and forth battle between Scorpion Soup for the Soul and the Phenomenal Pholks, but it was Scorpion Soup for the Soul that took SEVENTEEN POINTS, while Laramie Cigarettes kept up the chase with an additional six points!

Finally in round three, the Tri-Pardo added up to a total of twenty-eight points thanks to the icosahedron, with the first question giving teams six points, the second question giving them a traditional fifteen, and the third question giving them seven points! The Good Folks were able to get the first and third questions correct, giving them thirteen points, while Steve & Chris II did the same... but ALSO got the second question in correct to lose two points, and Scorpion Soup for the Soul did get the third question right... but lost points on the middle question, thus losing eight points, and just like giving room to The Phenomenal Pholks from Laramie Cigarettes to take the lead into the Finale question!

And for the Finale, it was Laramie Cigarettes who left four and a half points on the field while Scorpion Soup for the Soul bet twenty, likely hedging their bets just in came all teams go the answer wrong though not knowing if Laramie Cigarettes had the power to over take them for the Golden VHS...

Which is exactly what happened, as THE GOOD FOLKS FROM LARAMIE CIGARETTES repeated as CHAMPS at Hitch this past Monday, becoming SIX-TIME GOLDEN VHS CHAMPIONS in the process! Congrats to Laramie Cigarettes, who becomes the first team other then the Trusty Rumpets in their multiple iterations to go back-to-back at Hitch, and the first team to go back-to-back since the summer of '16!

Cardinal Rule

I t was a wonderful return to Cardinal Rule for our 201st night of Trivia Club, which not only saw the return of Last Place Team and the Cunning Stunts, but also a range of newcomers, and even a face from the Trivial Awards' In Memoriam that we had not expected to return for a second Golden VHS! Yes, Trivia Club was BACK in full force!

After the first round of Trivia Classic, the Cunning Stunts had returned as Champions as garnered themselves the lead by a half a point over the Last Place Team... though both teams had an impressive lead over the rest of the field! In third were newcomers the Snowflakes, who were one point ahead of Moose Knuckles, and then points behind Snowflakes tied for fifth were Lt. Dance's very own wonderfully named Gravy Spice, and the returning Pretty Producer and partner known as the Bathurst Babes!

Game Show Games then began with a TOP TEN for Last Place Team in Countdown Takedown, while the Bathurst Babes garnered eight points, the Cunning Stunts six points, Snowflakes four points, and Gravy Spice AND Moose Knuckles went in on the same number for two points! Survey Says then saw the Bathurst Babes grab the TOP TEN answer off the bat, while Last Place Team grabbed eight points this time, and the Cunning Stunts grabbed another six points! Gravy Spice grabbed another two points, while the four point answer alluded the field with, what we'll call, the Butterfly effect! Finally in C-C-Combo Breakdown, the Bathurst Babes wrapped up an impressive second round against the field of regular forces and newcomers, with a FIFTEEN POINT Breakdown, that saw them outlasting Gravy Spice to be the last team standing!

For the first time ever, Tri-Pardo would exceed the traditional forty-five point trio of questions in this the new Ico Era of Trivia Club! All because of new faces as well! Yes, on the first roll by the Snowflakes it was an EIGHTEEN point question! On the second question selected by the Bathurst Babes the points shifted to fourteen! And on what was decided to be a single roll by Moose Knuckles for the third question... we had a NINETEEN POINT question! Combined, fifty-one points were available on the night if a team hit for the triple! In getting the third question correct, Last Place Team nabbed nineteen points, but in getting the second and third questions correct the Cunning Stunts regained the lead riiiight before the Finale question! Also grabbing 33 points were Gravy Spice, while the Snowflakes notched an additional 37 points with correct answers on the first and third questions!

This led to a Finale question with all levels of wagering and possibility... though eventually came down to the Cunning Stunts and the Last Place Team, who had gone back and forth for the lead, round by round... and once it was all said and done with the last answer, the night's victors... and FIFTY-TWO TIME GOLDEN VHS CHAMPIONS were the CUNNING STUNTS!

Yes repeating as Champs were the Stunts, congrats to them! And in notching 194 points, they were able to hold off the Last Place Team who were runners-up on the night even with a personal high score of 169.5 points!
