 A fter two weeks away, it was great to be back at our Home Away and yours, Hitch, to begin February! We brought back some wonderfully competitive teams, saw some family values, and also saw some new faces look to win their first Golden VHS at our east-end trivia location!

 Trivia Classic  saw the Fighting Mongooses with the lead after the first round, even with a late entry from half the team! Fam White Shaym-Aliens, those Hitchens Cup winners now with more of the White family, were in second place after the first round! Tied for third place were newcomers Emotional Support Peacock, and our bar team at Hitch, Wookiee of the Year! Rounding out the field were returning team Falconhead, tied with another group of newcomers The Hotline Operators!

 Game Show Games  began with a Countdown Takedown that saw the field blanked by a tough number, indeed! Survey Says then saw Wookiee of the Year pick up the first TOP TEN of round two, with Falconhead grabbing eight points, and Emotional Support Peacock grabbing four points! Combo Breakdown was then a head to head to head competition which finally saw the Fam White Shaym-Aliens as the last team standing, outlasting Emotional Support Peacock, for THIRTEEN POINTS!

Having taken the lead from Wookiee of the Year, who had took it from those Fighting Mongooses, Fam White Shaym-Aliens were locked in four round three of Trivia Club,  Tri-Pardo ! Falconhead would role the first question for one point, joining the short list of teams to have done so! The second question would be rolled for twelve points by Fam White Shaym-Aliens, and the third question would be rolled for fifteen points by The Hotline Operators! With twenty-eight points on the board, a chance for the field to double-up or more, it was anyones games... especially if they could hit for the triple! Hitting for the triple were two teams, newcomers the Emotional Support Peacock as well as the Fam White Shaym-Aliens! The Shaym-Aliens had a six and a half point lead on the Emotional Support Peacocks, and in third were the Fighting Mongooses, after gaining sixteen points from the first and third questions!

This all led to a  Finale  with all varieties of wagers on the board, from all-in and more then all-in, to the Fighting Mongooses keeping four points on the board, and the Fam White Shaym-Aliens wagering thirty points! The Fam had protected themselves if everyone got the Finale incorrect, but had also given away the win if everyone got the answer correct... the nigh was now Emotional Support Peacock's to win! This was no normal Finale question however, it proved though enough to see two teams left standing with the correct answer. Finishing as runners-up on the night were Falconhead, making their first appearance since Hi#106! The winners on the night?

With their FOURTH GOLDEN VHS, bursting back into the lead at the last question, past the rest of the field... the FIGHTING MONGOOSES! Their 74 points is also now the highest score for the team in a Golden VHS victory, though still half of their personal best high score!

ANNOTATIONS for the JANUARY 2018 SCOREBOARD

• With the new year beginning, less Cardinal Rule, it's no wonder the Monthly Scoreboard looks completely different. Well, maybe not completely. Familiar teams are present, but the mix is admittedly a bit strange. And that certainly ain't bad.
• The Top Score of January 2018 would have been the fourteenth highest score of December 2017, but that was certainly a pedal to the metal, all out kind of month for a lot of teams!
• The Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes have proven themselves to be The Beast in the East for Trivia Club, and have enjoyed quite the Winter of Laramie. They have the highest score of January 2018, and therefore the highest score of January at Hitch. The 170 points took place on January 8th.
• The Good Folks also have the second highest score of January, with that 151 point total taking place at Farside on January 17th.
• The highest score of January at The Rec Room, and third highest score of the month, belongs to the Cunning Stunts, back on that familiar Top Ten after a December off.
• The United Trivia Workers Association Local 416 have the highest point total for the month, for a team who did not win the Golden VHS on the night. They were two points off of the win for the night at The Rec Room, on our first Trivia Club of 2018 on January 2nd.
• This is the third consecutive appearance on the Monthly Scoreboard for the M. Night Shaym-Aliens, and the fifth consecutive appearance on the Scoreboard for Matt & Pat of the Electric Mayhem, The Bastards, the Electric Bastards, and this month... Lil' Baby!
• Teams that competed on Hitch make up five spots on the January 2018 Scoreboard, while The Rec Room teams make up three spots, and Farside teams make up two spots.
• Trevor Tyres make their first Monthly Scoreboard appearance since their debut in November 2017, and the Fighting Mongooses make their first appearance since October of 2017.
• The eleventh highest score of January 2018 is the 87 points at Farside from Trivia Newton John, a different team mind you, then O'Trivia Newton John at Hitch. It's a popular choice, to get quizzical!
• The Mean Team for January, the high score closest to the scoreboard average, is Trevor Tyres!

 A fter three weeks away, we were back at The Rec Room Roundhouse for our seventeenth edition of Trivia Club just south of The Skydome! We returned to the Three10 restaurant in The Rec Room, with a host of new faces competing for their first Golden VHS! Who would be the newest Trivia Club Champion?! It truly was anyone's game!

 Trivia Classic  came to an end, with eleven teams battling for the top two prize spots or at least a spot in the celebrated Top Five (top five, top five)! In fifth place was Team Just Walking Through, while Once In A Blue Moon was in fourth place just a point ahead. In third, half a point ahead of Blue Moon, were Quiz Teama Aguilera! Half a point ahead of Quiz Teama, in that number two spot with candy to their names, were Up Do! Finally, our team in the lead of this tight field, just a point ahead of Up Do... were 5 People & Stephanie, enjoying a nice glass set of The Rec Room glasses and whiskey stones. Just missing out on the Top Five (top five, top five) were the Obstopulous Quintet, a point short, in sixth! In seventh were Rapini Slaves, followed by The Thirsty Tigers and Goofy Goobers tied for eighth, with State of the Union and 6 to 2 rounding out the field!

Our second round at The Rec Room,  Tri-Pardo , saw the close field begin to separate after a tough selection of questions! With the first question being rolled for eleven points by State of the Union, the second question being rolled for four points by The Thirsty Tigers, and the third question being rolled for thirteen points by Once In A Blue Moon! The first question saw all teams that went for it, lose eleven points, save for State of the Union (the best one you'd see all night, at that), while Just Walking Through lost four points as well on the second question, though the Obstropulous Quintet picked up four points, as did The Thirsty Tigers and 5 People & Stephanie! With the high point third question, it was a feast or famine for the teams who went for it... with three teams losing big points, but four teams gaining big points! So heading into the Finale, State of the Union had jumped from tenth to first! In second before the last question was Quiz Teama Aguilera, with Up Do now a point and a half back in third place!

In the third round and  Trivia Finale , all teams went all-in, and even those without twenty points used those house points as well! All teams except for one! Quiz Teama Aguilera went all in save for two and a half points! In doing so, well, let's just say it was a tricky Finale! The always dangerous overall stumper! Runners-up on the night were four teams with zero points, 5 People & Stephanie, Up Do, Once In A Blue Moon, and State of the Union! This meant that winners on the night...

GOLDEN VHS CHAMPS to end January 2018 were... QUIZ TEAMA AGUILERA! It was certainly a twist ending for a team that had kept it close throughout the night, and had moved from up from third in the first round, to second in the second round, before finishing in first to end the night!
