The third last edition of Trivia Club at Hitch for 2018 saw both familiar teams return and also newcomers enter the field! Who might walk away from the 136th edition of our Black Label location with the Golden VHS?

Leading  Trivia Classic , our first round, were the Fighting Mongooses! Our returning Golden VHS winners held a four and a half point advantage on the Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes, who were in second place and sticking around for the winter after a summer away! A point behind were Old Milwookiee, followed by newcomers The Swingerzzz, and rounding out the Top Five (top five, top five) The Sinking Ship!

This meant that  Game Show Games  held potential for the game to turn, and first up Old Milwookiee would almost nail the Countdown Takedown for the TOP TEN! The Swingerzzz would also get eight big points! Then in Survey Says it was The Swingerzzz with the TOP TEN, while Laramie Cigarettes nabbed eight points! Heading into the Combo Breakdown, the Mongooses who Fight still held the lead, but Laramie Cigarettes were close behind, with The Swingerzzz now hot on their tale! In the Combo Breakdown, Old Milwookiee would grab ten points but would finish third. Ultimately the Fighting Mongooses would outlast the Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes, and decide not to double their Combo but still earn fifteen points as the last team standing!

With all that settled, the Fighting Mongooses brought their lead into  Tri-Pardo  but the night was far from over! The first question was chosen by Old Milwookiee and rolled for four points, while The Swingerzzz chose the second question and The Good Folks chose the third question and both teams rolled for TWENTY! This meant that forty-four points were up for grabs, naturally. The four points proved some of the hardest however as The Swingerzzz and Good Folks would answer the first question correctly, while everyone else lost points. The field would also lose points on the second or third questions, either cancelling out big points or digging a deeper hole! Save for Old Milwookiee! They took a swing on the second question, and though the first lost them points the net result saw Old Milwookiee in the lead before the Finale question!

Saturday Night Live Fantasy League presented by Trivia Club, is a Fantasy League like no other. Like Fantasy Football for the comedy nerd, participants draft cast members and prospective hosts before the start of the season and then are awarded points based of their performance through a scoring system. For additional points, before the start of each episode participants can guess which two songs they think the musical guest will perform. Since the beginning, this television institution has become the first step in the major leagues of comedy stardom, and with over forty seasons of familiar traditions, we’ve found a way to add maths to comedy and somehow make that a fun game to play.

Thank you for Kevin M. for breaking down points for this episode of Saturday Night Live! Leiv Schrieber was both surprisingly (and I’m sure unsurprisingly) a highlight of the season so far, especially that House Hunters sketch!

Say hello to the new look rosters as well, our Featured Cast REDRAFT took place after episode four and we saw some shake-ups both big and small. Only three of our seven teams didn’t move at least one cast member around, Hunter the Hungries Gotta Eat, The Not Ready For First Place Players, and The Team You Wish You Hadn’t Started A Conversation With At A Party, while the Holtzwomenn shifted two of their three! Leslie Jones was dropped both of her prior teams, The Billion Dollar Murrays and War Horse Can Dance, while Kyle Mooney was picked up by The Ignorant Sluts and Holtzwomenn!

The next episode of Saturday Night Live will be hosted by Steve Carrel with musical guest Ella Mai, with Hunter the Hungries Gotta Eat looking to pick up some points in The Chase for the Phil Hartman Trophy from his host-pick in Carrel! The December 1^st host has also been announced, with Claire Foy making it TWO PICKS from three-time Hartman Trophy winner Matthew S. and The Ignorant Sluts, and she will be joined by musical guest Anderson Paak!

If that sounds like a weird 80s VHS... perfect. The name is in celebration of Farside by way of the sun glasses wearing skeleton on the first t-shirts sold through our east-end trivia location, and thus the Golden Skull is up for grabs!

The competition was out in full force as well, to the surprise of no one, with the Fighting Mongooses leading the field after the first round of  Trivia Classic . Just half a point behind them however were the Cunning Stunts! Yes, those returning Stunts were just a half point behind our reigning Golden VCR holders, and looking to add a third Grand Championship to their own chock full legacy! Four points off the lead in third were the M. Night Shaym-Aliens! Like the two teams ahead of them, they had already won a Grand Championship at Trivia Club, the Hitchens Cup, but they also had a reputation of their own of being the team to beat in Farside's first year, with six Golden VHS wins in one form or another, over nine appearances. On their tenth time out however, the Shaym-Aliens were without their Shaym-Ali-Ace in Shelby, who they had not one a VHS without since she joined the team! In fourth place, not far away from the Shaym-Aliens were Rooster Juice, while also making their Trivia Club debut in a big way were Find Us On MySpace in fifth! Just outside of the Top Five (top five, top five) by half a point, the returning Robb O. of Trusty Rumpet teams past, as part of 9 1/2 Weeks! They were followed by The DDTs, then Galaxy Fresh Foods and Hardware (comprised of some familiar production faces from The Rec Room!), while returning Golden VHS champs Brewers Yeast Infection rounded out the field, four points ahead of the team with no name!

This meant that the ten teams all had a stake in the Golden Skull, and more then half the field were also more then willing to simply win their first Golden VHS!  Game Show Games  began with Box Office Bullseye, with the selection process going to 9 1/2 Weeks! Robb and co. would win two points, as would The Team With No Name, while adding five points would be Rooster Juice, Galaxy Fresh Foods and Hardware, the Fighting Mongooses, and the M. Night Shaym-Aliens! The Galaxy folks would then follow things up with the TOP TEN in Survey Says, with MySpace getting eight points, Rooster Juice grabbing six points, and the Team With No Name got two points, while the ever elusive fourth place question stumped the six remaining teams! Countdown Takedown then gave the TOP TEN and the lead to Rooster Juice, heading into round three!

In our third round of  Tri-Pardo , thirty-two points were rolled across the three questions. The Fighting Mongooses rolled twelve on the first category, while Rooster Juice rolled five on the second category, and Find Us On MySpace rolled fifteen points for the third category! Half the field would hit the triple and gain the thirty-two available points in Tri-Pardo, with the Fighting Mongooses retaking the lead, but the M. Night Shaym-Aliens, Cunning Stunts, 9 1/2 Weeks, and Brewers Yeast Infection not far behind!

Even with an aggregate score possibility looming over the field, most all of the teams went all in, with only 9 1/2 Weeks proving conservative with their wagering. The most adversely affected by the  Trivia Finale , were the Fighting Mongooses who finished with 1 point in this first leg of the Search for the Gilded Skull! Brewers Yeast Infection wouldn't repeat as Champs, but they would finish ten points ahead of 9 1/2 Weeks with 110 points on the night, good for third! Runners-up on the night were the Cunning Stunts with 157 points, crossing the Sesquicentennial Mark for the 25th time!

Seven points ahead, even against a packed field, finishing the night with 164 points, winning their THIRTY-SECOND GOLDEN VHS... the M NIGHT SHAYM-ALIENS! Some combination of the team has now won the fifth, tenth, and twentieth events at Farside!

Congrats to the M. Night Shaym-Aliens, fittingly the team to beat in the first year of Trivia Club at Farside, in the overall lead to become Uncle Rubberknee's Head of Class! They also win the Linear Championship Belt from the Fighting Mongooses! Thank you to everyone who came out to Farside this past Wednesday as well, supporting Trivia Club and the Friendly Neighbourhood 'side of the street! We will see you all again in TWO WEEKS for the GRAND FINALE of our first annual Golden Skull Championship!

With a competitive night ahead, back in the Three10 restaurants space at The Rec Room Roundhouse, we were join by a wide selection of competitive teams wherein any result was possible and the night tipped in unpredictable directions each and every round! Who would walk away with the Golden VHS, would it be a returning winner or would there be a rare repeat Champ?!

Newcomers Orange You A Banana? held the lead after  Trivia Classic , but not too far behind in the runner-up spot of the first round were The Beavers! Half a point behind those newcomers were Exotic Quizards from Across the Pond, who were also only two points off the lead! In fourth were Quiztopher Walkens, two points away from third, and just half a point behind Quiztopher were the team making their thirteenth appearance at The Rec Room, Suck It Trebek! Just outside of the Top Five (top five, top five) were Papas Fritas, followed by Married w/ Children, and The Winners… who if anything else, did not lack in confidence!

 Tri-Pardo , our second round at The Rec Room, then saw Suck It Trebek and Quiztopher Walkens grab thirty-two points off the first and second categories as chosen and rolled by Exotic Quizards from Across the Pond! Orange You A Banana? nabbed sixteen points from the first question as well, while Exotic Quizards from Across the Pond lost sixteen points on the second question! Ultimately no one went for the additional eighteen points as chosen and rolled by Papas Fritas, which meant thirty-two points was indeed the most won in round two of the fifty points available!

This meant that heading into the  Trivia Finale , their was only half a point between Quiztopher Walkens in the lead, and in second place Suck It Trebek! Suck It Trebek would leave one point on the board, while Quiztopher Walkens would wager thirty of their forty-six and a half points and at the very least leave themselves some safety on an unpredictable night! With everyone else going all in, or more, it was all or nothing on the last question… and on that question, two teams would answer correctly!

Finishing as runners-up and jumping up from half a point before the Trivia Finale… Exotic Quizards from Across the Pond! Winning their FIRST GOLDEN VHS on the night, and doubling up on the last question of our fifty-fifth event, ending the night with thirty-four points… THE BEAVERS!

Thank you to Megan M. for breaking down the points on this weeks episode! Apologies on my part for getting the post up a little later then usual! The Benihana vaudeville act is still solid gold, reminding me that when he isn’t taking himself too seriously Jonah Hill proves he would have been an ace Saturday Night Live cast member. It’s the kind of showcase that shows he has an almost Adam Sandler style energy but also the acting chops to round it out.

Also, I was wrong last month when I noted it was his fourth time… Jonah Hill is the newest member of the Five Timers Club, and not only that they shone the spotlight on the women in the Club! Well done, all! Tina Fey's appearance also gave War Horse Can Dance some points as well.

Liev Schreiber is hosting next week’s episode of Saturaday Night Live, as all of us predicted, with musical guest Lil Wayne! In fact so many of us thought that Ray Donovan would host that we all agreed not to draft him so as to not tear apart the Fantasy League! Phew, that was a close one. On November 17th, Steve Carell will be hosting with musical guest Ella Mai! Hunter the Hungries Gotta Eat will receive points for drafting Carell, who is hosting for the first time in ten years!

Our Elvis Costello, the Featured Cast Redraft started a little late and thus the new look teams will debut with the next points breakdown! Spoiler alert, Kyle Mooney has found his way back into the Fantasy League!
