 I t was an intimate night at the Original Home of Trivia Club, with Cardinal Rule being co-presented not only by the fine folks at Steam Whistle but also the Lost Episode Festival Toronto! Yes, those in attendance were teams of Hustle and Desire, and even Trivial Award winners as such! Who would break on through in this crowd of consistently awesome folks?

After the first round of Trivia Classic, it was Treasure Butt in the lead! Yes, once again with an impressive first round of answers were the people's champs of Lou Dawgs Trivia Club! Though they took twenty-one appearances to win their first Golden VHS at our beer league of yor, they had actually won a Golden VHS in their first TWO appearances at Cardinal Rule! Two points behind them in second were a team that matched their appearance record before the first recorded gold, yes Last Place Team, who won their first Golden VHS at Cardinal Rule after twenty-one appearances! In third were Lt. Dance's very own More Like North Ko-razy (amiright?), with the field being wrapped up by the fine folks of Trivial Knowledge, the record-holders now in their own right, eclipsing both Last Place Team and Treasure Butt, with thirty-eight appearances before their first Golden VHS victory! Most excellently what all these teams did... was they kept on showing up, and we're glad they've had fun!

With Game Show Games in full swing, including this week's adapted rules, it was Treasure Butt who grabbed the TOP TEN to add to their lead, while eight points helped More Like North Ko-razy gain ground on Last Place Team, especially once the recent Threepeat team at Cardinal Rule were only able to add four points and thus slipped into third place. Treasure Butt then grabbed the eight points in Survey Says, while More Like North Ko-razy strengthened their second place spot, and the second top ten on the night proved all the more elusive! Finally, Game Show Games wrapped up on the night with Box Office Bulls-Eye, and though no team would hit the bulls-eye for ten, Treasure Butt did manage to add ANOTHER five points to their total, while Last Place Team also hit the five point mark!

With more then ten points on their nearest competition, Tri-Pardo played into the hands of Treasure Butt, as the first category rolled by Last Place Team was worth two points, the second category rolled by Trivial Knowledge was worth seven points, while the third category finally put some serious points into place with nineteen points up for grabs! Wouldn't you know it, Treasure Butt would be stumped on one and two, but would grab nineteen points on the third category! Trivial Knowledge would also grab an additional nineteen points from the third category! Last Place Team would gain points on their own presented category as well, yes, two good points!

So with the Finale, Treasure Butt did have room to maneuver, though only enough to give them the win if everyone got the Finale correct or everyone got the Finale incorrect, otherwise they needed to answer that last question correctly to ensure their win...

That they would! Though Last Place Team and Trivial Knowledge would both answer the Finale correctly, each gaining more then sixty points in the end, it would be TREASURE BUTT who would win the night and take home their FOURTH Golden VHS! It would prove to be their third Golden VHS in just ten appearances at Cardinal Rule, and their first victory at the Original Home of Trivia Club in one-hundred and twenty-five events!

 W elcome back to Hitch, ladies and gentlemen! A month away has engendered quite the competitive spirit on the east-end, and to celebrate that spirit we tried a little something different in the midst of the evening... something that brought an impressive slate of 10's to the fore in the second round!

When Trivia Classic wrapped, eight points separated six teams! Not only that, but two teams were tied atop the standings, with the North American House Hippos returning, as the latest remix of Quiztin Tarantino, and newcomers the Fighting Mongooses certainly showing the collected competition what they were capable of! Two points behind them were friends of the M. Night Shaym-Aliens, the Tough Bretts! Three points behind the Bretts were Fake News, one half of the returning DePopp (Golden VHS Champs from June 2016 at Hitch), while the Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes were two points behind them in fifth and a point behind those Good Folks, rounding out the field, were ???!

What was different in this week's Game Show Games was that teams then answered on their sheets to be marked! Was it possible? Was it as fun?! Well, yes it was possible but we did immediately miss the rabble rabble! Fake News grabbed the first TOP TEN in Countdown Takedown, while ??? grabbed eight points, Tough Bretts tied up with them, and the Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes nabbed four points! Survey Says then saw the field grab the TOP TEN POINTS in our new look format! Yes, the entire field! You read that right. This made our new old look in Game Show Games all the more important, with Box Office Bulls-Eye offering the third TOP TEN of the round... something that those Tough Bretts took to with aplomb while ??? and Fake News each grabbed eight points!

Would the former co-leads in the North American House Hippos and the Fighting Mongooses be able to catch up with Fake News and the leading team heading into the third round, the Tough Bretts?! While Fake News weren't able to answer the trio of questions in Tri-Pardo with enough confidence NOT to lose points, the Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes did in fact answer the third question correctly for eighteen points! Adding twenty-six points to their team were ??? and the Tough Bretts! This first and second correct answer combination would give the Tough Bretts the lead, although very close behind were the Fighting Mongooses (after answering the first and third questions correct) and the North American House Hippos (also answering the first and third correct, though getting hit for a six point loss on the second question), meaning the Finale would come down to the wire!

Who would be the last team standing? Especially one that only one team was able to answer correctly! That team, The Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes had wagered all of two points, but that was enough to bring their total to forty-eight points! So now it was a matter of just how much other teams had wagered! Losing forty-one and sixty-two respectively were Fake News and ???, leaving those teams pointless! Also wagering sixty-two points, leaving one on the board, were the North American House Hippos... so it came down to the top two teams before the Finale, so see if either had outwagered the winningest one-man team at Hitch! With fifty points wagered... the Tough Bretts had to settle for third, after an excellent Game Show Games! And wagering nineteen points, usually a tough less for newcomers... instead, allowing for the win by a slim TWO POINTS!

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: FIRST AND GOLD!

Yes, winning their FIRST Golden VHS the Champions on the Monday night... THE FIGHTING MONGOOSES! That's a cool team name.

 I t was a wonderfully unpredictable night at the Original Home of Trivia Club, and at Cardinal Rule not only were we sponsored by Steam Whistle, but also by the fine folks at the Lost Episode Festival Toronto! It was quite the exciting mix of teams, Grand Champions and returning favorites among them! How did it all shake out? Trivia Classic had Last Place Team in the lead after the first round! Jarrad of Last Place Team is our first Patron on Patreon, which means that yes you can #JoinJarrad! Don't make me continue to use that hashtag. Treasure Butt, yes the winners of Cardinal Rule's 100th and 101st events, was four points off the lead for Cardinal Rule's 225th event! Three points behind them were the Grand Champions of 2016, David Bowie's Corporate Whores! Three points behind them were Trivial Knowledge, returning for the second time since their second VHS. Rounding out the field, only half a point behind Tri Know, was Lt. Dance's very own Pen Island!

Game Show Games continued the fight forward for points, with Treasure Butt grabbing the TOP TEN in BOTH of Countdown Takedown and Survey Says, giving the Lou Dawg mainstays the lead in the second round, though Last Place Team grabbed six and two points for themselves, respectively! Pen Island grabbed two and six points, himself, while Trivial Knowledge nabbed eight points in the Takedown, and four points in the Surveys... leaving David Bowie's Corporate Whores to take the four and eight for themselves. Catching up a bit more to the surging Treasure Butt, David Bowie's Corporate Whores not only proved the last team standing in Combo Breakdown, they also added an additional four points after outlasting the field on a tough question, for SEVEN POINTS!

This brought the night into the turn of round three, and a very important Tri-Pardo for all involved, especially David Bowie's Corporate Whores! With the first category worth fifteen points, the second category worth nine points and the third category worth TWENTY POINTS (as rolled by David Bowie's Corporate Whores, making them the first team to do so in the Ico Era), the teams that could grab that full forty-five could take the advantage late in the game. And by teams, I mean team... because even though it took until the second to last question, David Bowie's Corporate Whores would hit for the triple and with a forty-four point swing, take the lead on the field for the first time on the night! Treasure Butt and Pen Island would both still grab points on the second and third questions, for an additional twenty-nine points, leaving only ten points David Bowie's and the Butt! A tricky twenty point question would however knock Last Place Team and Trivial Knowledge for eleven points each, taking the advantage from them before the Finale.

With the Finale, Treasure Butt possibly suspected they had lost their second round lead, and thus wagered a single point. David Bowie's Corporate Whores on the other hand went ALL IN, and a bag of chips, and with the Finale... it proved tricky enough to only to answered correctly by two teams. Trivial Knowledge, who finished in third, got it correct. Treasure Butt, thanks to their cagey wagering, still finished as runners-up.

On this night though, playing the long game and winning the night on the final round of questions, including the Finale, and taking home their FIFTEENTH Golden VHS on their thirtieth appearance (that's some latter day Electric Mayhem or Unusual Suspects numbers, right there)... DAVID BOWIE'S CORPORATE WHORES!
