Trivia Classic saw a selection of audio and visual questions, produced with great help from Opera Insights program manager Catherine Willshire! There's No "I" In Opera were in first place after round one, with a perfect score! They were a point ahead of Berenice's Potato, a team which featured a selection of participants from last year, including a member of our first Golden VHS winners The Nibelungs from the 2017 Opera Trivia! A point behind Berenice's Potato, in third, were Poppea's Corn! Four points off the lead, in fourth were The Rookies! Not bad for some Rookies! Sopranos rounded out the field in fifth place!
Game Show Games then saw a selection of Countdown Takedown games, with Potato, Corn, and those Rooks each picking up the TOP FIVE (top five, top five) points available, while Sopranos and No "I" In Opera each grabbed two points. Then in our second Countdown Takedown, the potential points had shifted, with Berenice's Potato now in first, followed by Poppea's Corn, There's No "I" In Opera, The Rookies, and Sopranos, in that order! Poppea's Corn once again picked up the TOP FIVE, tying them for the lead with Berenice's Potato who picked up four points, as did Sopranos, There's No "I" In Opera, meaning The Rookies grabbed one point!
Tri-Pardo then gave three questions, which totaled a potential forty-one points for the field! Hitting for the triple, getting all three questions correct, and keeping their potential victory down to the wire were There's No "I" In Opera, still only two points off of the lead, and Poppea's Corn and Berenice's Potato, now each with seventy points! Finale wagering saw the nearly perfect night for There's No "I" In Opera wagered safely with 42 of their 68 points, while our two tied teams up top wagered blindly as well, no knowing anyone else's score heading into the last question.
Berenice's Potato went all-in, while Poppea's Corn left a single point on the table. It would prove a Golden point on this night... with the Finale, four of the five teams would get the question correct. Including the top three teams before the final question. Our third place team on the night There's No "I" In Opera would finish with 110 points, and our runners-up on the night would finish with 139 points. Those runners-up? Poppea's Corn.
Which meant that with a whole lot of Opera know-how, and a liiiittle bit of luck, our second annual OPERA TRIVIA CHAMPS were... BERENICE'S POTATO with 140 points!
