The first leg of the SIXTH ANNUAL Christopher Hitchens Cup took place this past Monday at Hitch, as we celebrated our sixth year of Trivia Club at our longest running home of Canada’s Greatest Game Show! Hitch has seen it all, through the years, and who would be the latest competitor of Trivia Club to take home the only imbibable Grand Championship in all of Trivia Club? They would join PETE!, the Trusty Rumpets, Tiny Tim’s…, the M. Night Shaym-Aliens, and Smarty Pretty, as winners of this annual event!

 Trivia Classic  came to an entertaining end, with the Fighting Mongooses in the lead on their forty-ninth consecutive night! It was an ample lead in fact, in front of an otherwise tight field, as The Good, The Bad & The Ugly Folks from Laramie Cigarettes – Ecstasy of Laramie Championship Edition were off the lead by eight and a half points, but had himself a half point lead on C is for Wookiee! One point behind Wookiee, and a point and a half away from Laramie, was the fourth Hitchens Cup winner… the M. Night Shaym-Aliens, and for the first time the M. Night Shaym-Aliens: The First Shaym-Alien himself Dylan M.

With round two of  Game Show Games , the field shook up even further, as Countdown Takedown saw the M. Night Shaym-Alien grab the TOP TEN, while the Fighting Mongooses kept as close as possible with eight points, and The Good Folks and C is for Wookiee each took six points! Then in Survey Says, the M. Night Shaym-Aliens got even closer to the lead, and strengthened his second place spot with another TOP TEN, as the Fighting Mongooses grabbed six points, The Good Folks from Laramie nabbed two points, and C is for Wookiee was left pointless!

This meant that round three of  Tri-Pardo  was all the more important to establish placement in not only this event but all September long! The Fighting Mongooses rolled the first category for eight points, C is for Wookiee rolled the second category for TWENTY on the first roll, and The Good Folks rolled the third category for eleven points, giving the field a full thirty-nine points to add to their totals in round three! Hitting for the triple, and gaining all thirty-nine points were the Fighting Mongooses, The Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes, and C is for Wookiee! This meant that the Mongooses had kept their lead, but also that with points gained on the second question but lost on the first question, the M. Night Shaym-Aliens had still gained twelve points but had fallen back to fourth place heading into the final question.

 Trivia Finale  wagering was an all-in affair save a point for the Mongooses and two points for Laramie, except for the Shaym-Alien, who only wagered one and a half points on an otherwise unfamiliar category to him! Still, it was an answer that all teams were able to attain and in doing so… the M. Night Shaym-Aliens finished forth with 63 points in this first leg of Hitchens Cup VI! Finishing in third place with 151 points was C is for Wookiee! Finishing in the runner-up spot on the night was The Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes with 154 points, the same number of events at Hitch!

This meant that our REPEAT CHAMPS, and now twenty-one times at Hitch, and TWENTY-THREE time GOLDEN VHS CHAMPS overall were… the FIGHTING MONGOOSES! They finished the night with an impressive 184 points, a wonderful starting point for the Hitchens Cup standings heading into our second leg!

We’ll see you all again in TWO WEEKS as we round out our sixth year at Hitch and head into a seventh, on MONDAY September 23rd for the GRAND FINALE of HITCHENS CUP VI!
