After a month away, Trivia Club returned to Hitch on the east-end of Toronto! We did so in style as well, as we weren't simply celebrating our 400th ever trivia event but ALSO this was the beginning of the two-night third annual Christopher Hitchens Cup! Fittingly it was a historical night for Hitch, full of an impressive amount of highs and lows and ALL KINDS of fun!

Trivia Classic saw some impressive point totals in and of itself with the M. Night Shaym-Aliens grabbing the top spot, a full six points ahead of the Bridges of Prince Edward County who were tied with their friends in Tiny Tim's... on this night known as Oddler Gobbler's Toddler-Hobbler with a side of Sodder Cobble served on a bed of Daughter Fodder! Two points behind them in fourth were the Trusty Rumpets, with another returning team now known as Hey Dummy in fifth! Also making an appearance in the first round were 5 Fast 5 Furious as Two Is The Lonliest Number!

Game Show Games proved oh so unpredictable, seeing Oddler Gobbler's Toddler-Hobbler with a side of Sodder Cobble served on a bed of Daughter Fodder get out of the second round without aaaany points, but in Countdown Takedown it was the Trusty Rumpets with the TOP TEN! Hey Dummy grabbed eight, while the Shaym-Aliens grabbed six, and Bridges nabbed four points. Then in Survey Says it was the Shaym-Aliens picked up the TOP TEN! Trusty Rumpets picked up tow, while Bridges of Prince Edward County got four points, and Hey Dummy got another eight points! Finally, C-C-Combo Breakdown proved so very competitive with THREE TEAMS picking up FIVE POINTS, while Bridges of Prince Edward County were the last team standing and FIFTEEN POINTS better off! Yes, it was the most points ever seen in a Breakdown since the new format was adopted!

In the third round, Tri-Pardo, Hey Dummy grabbed twenty-five points while the other four teams... yes, all four, picked up the trinity of correct answers for a forty-five point boost! Before the Finale this put Hey Dummy at fifth at 83.5 points, and the Oddler Gobbler's Toddler-Hobbler with a side of Sodder Cobble served on a bed of Daughter Fodder in fourth even after a tough second round with 87 points! The top THREE teams were all within range for a plus 200 final score after the Finale, with the Trusty Rumpets standing at 102 points, the Bridges of Prince Edward County standing at 110 points, and the M. Night Shaym-Aliens at 114 points! With the Finale, the M. Night Shaym-Aliens went ALL IN, while the Trusty Rumpets left three points on the table, and the Bridges of Prince Edward County wagered 45 points which left the door open on this night but gave them security for the Finale of the Hitchens Cup in two weeks when the month's scores would be amalgamated!

As I noted though, Bridges of Prince Edward County not put more chips on the table took them out of contention on this night if the Trusty Rumpets and/or the M. Night Shaym-Aliens got it right! Not since the Electric Mayhem set the all-time score of 235 points earlier in the year was their more to lose on the last question! The wild wily Rumpet luck kicked in however, and when the Finale had settled the Shaym-Aliens had finished with 0 points! Amazingly the Oddler Gobbler's Toddler-Hobbler with a side of Sodder Cobble served on a bed of Daughter Fodder set a new PERSONAL BEST for Tiny Tim's... by more then 50 points, and not just that but totaled the third highest score in the history of Hitch Trivia Club as unheralded runners-up on the night with 174 points! The Trusty Rumpets would not be caught however, finishing the night with 201 points! It proved their SECOND TIME past the 200 Mark in as many appearances!

Congrats to the TRUSTY RUMPETS on their TWENTY-THIRD GOLDEN VHS! What a way to return after a month away from Hitch, and thank you to all the wonderful folks who participate and make the experience at Hitch such wild and crazy fun! We'll see you all again in TWO WEEKS on September 26th for the 75th Trivia Club at Hitch, the FINALE of our third annual Christopher Hitchens Cup! May your cup runneth over, with Johnny Walker Black!

Russel Harder hosts Trivia Club at Hitch (1216 Queen St East) every other MONDAY of the month, at Lou Dawg's near Ryerson (76 Gerrard St E) every TUESDAY, and Cardinal Rule (5 Roncesvalles Ave) every WEDNESDAY!
