Socratic Shield: The Search, as of Mid-May 2016

May 20, 2016

We’ve passed the midway of May, more then a third of the way into 2016 and have started our FIFTH YEAR in Toronto! It’s all thanks to you, and to continue to celebrate you the teams, we’re going to give you a monthly look at a concept that has long been brewing in the background of Trivia Club! The Socratic Shield is a way to celebrate the top performing teams within a calendar year, not quite an annual award like the Golden VCR, Hitchens Cup, or Top Dawg Trophy… yet still a celebration of annual excellence! The upper echelon of winning teams features all the familiar team names – especially those given a boost by an impressively competitive Grand Championship Grand Prix in April!

Ladies and gentlemen, pens at the ready: The search for the 2016 Socratic Shield continues!

BIGGEST MOVER: Errbody, congrats to them all!

Cunning Stunts
LOU DAWGS (7), CARDINAL RULE (1), HITCH (1)
With a big win against an intimate crowd at Lou Dawg's on May 17th, the Cunning Stunts took lone ownership of first place. This, after a contentious battle against number two on this list, in April which saw them win at Hitch, Lou Dawg's, AND Cardinal Rule, as well as trading wins with number three, to start the year!

MOVEMENT: NEW
David Bowie's Corporate Whores
CARDINAL RULE (7), HITCH (1)
The fourth Grand Champions in Trivia Club's history ALSO were only stopped from a potential threepeat thanks to a night of nights by the Electric Mayhem, but the two nights that they had before had proved to be quite the impressive reintroduction in 2016. All this and a scrappy victory on May 11th!

The Bastards
LOU DAWGS (6)
Though quiet since then, The Bastards finally attained the victory they were looking for in their first two years at Lou Dawgs as the only team to start and continue through our entire stay there, so far, with a Top Dawg Trophy victory! As noted they also began the year trading victories with the Cunning Stunts!

MOVEMENT: NEW
The Electric Mayhem
CARDINAL RULE (4)
Though they've been uncharacteristically absent from the win column since then, their four VHS so far this season are in their own way historical. They broke up a potential Redacted threepeat, before doing the same to David Bowie's Corporate Whores, and then Threepeated themselves! Of course, this all started when they set the All-Time High Score of Trivia Club. All in a nights work.

The Redacted
CARDINAL RULE (4)
The Redacted returned in January, after a few months away from competition, to win two Golden VHS, before adding another in March, and their fourth VHS on the first Wednesday of May! As always they prove a dangerous opponent, on any given Wednesday, and are a welcome return!

MOVEMENT: NEW
M. Night Shaym-Aliens
CARDINAL RULE (1), HITCH (1)
The most recent our of the teams to win at least two VHSes in 2016, are also one of Trivia Club's most well traveled! The first win came early in the year, while team captain Dylan was abroad! Their latest VHS win came at Hitch, which also saw the Shaym-Aliens win their sixth Linear Championship reign!

PETE!
LOU DAWGS (2)
The Grand Championship Grand Prix was very very good to PETE! at Lou Dawgs! With the seconded run of Electric Bastards disbanded early, PETE! won two straight weeks of Lou Dawgs competition before falling to Treasure Butt in their first victory at their first Trivia Club home!

Tiny Tim's...
HITCH (2)
Tiny Tim's... traded victories with the next team on the list, to start the year off, including an unpredictable victory during our Leap Day Trivia on February 29th! Their next Golden VHS seems inevitable, the only question now is when they'll get their third and if Hitch's bi-weekly schedule will give them enough time to keep in contention for the Socratic Shield.

5 Fast 5 Furious
HITCH (2)
New regualrs to Hitch, 5 Fast 5 Furious have proved quite the competitive team! Trading wins during the first two months of the year, with Tiny Tim's... at our home away from our Original Home, Hitch! The real test will be adding further victories to their impressive start, as the year continues!
