This past Tuesday it was the return of the Grand Championship Finale, while also somehow being a familiar night on-line from the Trivia Clubhouse! After having to take a year off in 2020, the Chase for the Golden VCR returned with a two-night aggregate high score across the 20th and 27th of April seeing a new set of names on the Grand Championship of Trivia Club! Let’s dig into the results of our 55th edition of the Trivia Clubhouse first, and then we’ll give you all the full ninth anniversary Golden VCR results!

With the top score on the night, 44 points of the potential 50, were 2 Fast 2 Curious! One point behind, and able to join us live this week, were Down by the Bay with 43 points! Also with a rare live appearance, but always appreciated, were the Half-Vaccinated Mongooses who finished in third with 41 points! Tied for third with 41 points were The Ghosts of Bebe Rebozo! Rounding out the Top Five (top five top five) on the evening, with 40 points, was Reince Priebus’s Rancid Pubis!

With 37 points, the sixth highest score of the night, was Thanks to Candice! They finished a point ahead of BirdMatt or (The Unexpected Virtue of Smithnorance), who ended the night with a strong 36 points! Agatha Quiztie returned for their first event since December 1st, and scored 35 points on the night! Also with 35 points were the M. Night Shaym-Aliens! With 34 points, having talked themselves out of a solid 6 points along the way (tough stuff!), were Cookiefaced! 31 points went to The Questionables when all was said and done, which tied them up with the Travel Buddies who also finished with 31 points! Your Producer (and mine) finished with 25 points, while CherLou finished with 12 points, and Team uno Persona had 10 points to round out the live crowd on the night!

What did this mean for our 2020/2021 Golden VCR Grand Championship? Finishing tied for fourteenth, with 24 points apiece over the 20th and 27th of April were Team uno Persona and CherLou! In thirteenth with just one of the two nights of the Chase to their name were the returning Agatha Quiztie, and their 35 points! In twelfth with a collective 40 points over two nights was Your Producer (and mine)! In eleventh place with 53 points to end April, was the Travel Buddies!

Tied for ninth place in the ninth anniversary Grand Championship aggregate were Cookiefaced, and the M. Night Shaym-Aliens, with both teams finishing with 60 points! Finishing with 61 points, giving them eighth spot in the Chase for the Golden VCR, were The Questionables! In the number seven spot, with a combined 67 points over two nights to go along with two memorable team names, was Matt Smith! In sixth place with a total of 68 points was Thanks to Candice (and Fam)!

The Top Five (top five top five) was able to be revealed on the night, which meant that you are aware that with 71 total points over the double-evening of game show goodness, our fifth place finisher was Reince Pribus’s Rancid Pubis! With 76 points, the fourth place finisher revealed, and congrats again for the first part of your vaccination right before the second part of this Grand event, the Fighting Mongooses! Tied in the runner-up, continuing a well quizzed family feud, with 80 points each were The Ghost of Bebe Rebozo, and Down by the Bay (who had also traded the runner-up spot on each night to our eventual overall winner as well)! When all was said and done, the Grand Championship Golden VCR has returned to it’s 2018/2019 winner, and additional year-long caretakers… finishing with 85 points in total, Golden VCR Grand Champs for 2020/2021… 2 Fast 2 Curious!

We began our tenth year of Trivia Club on April 20th, and to kick things off right we brought back competition for the Golden VCR in as classic a way as we could! For our Grand Championship return, the nearly annual (minus last year) competition would be competed for in the same way it was on it’s first year. Simply put this week and next would see the team with the highest aggregate point total with their name atop the Golden VCR! The Grand Championship Grand Prix would no doubt return again one day, but for our 54th edition of Trivia Club live from the Trivia Clubhouse, returning to YouTube, we would see the first of two legs of Grand Championship goodness included with reliable Trivia Clubhouse fun! 2 Fast 2 Curious grab the night’s top score with 41 points, though not far behind in the runner-up spot were The Ghosts of Bebe Rebozo with 39 points! In third with 35 points, joining live on the night, were the Fighting Mongooses! With 31 points were three teams, including Reince Priebus’s Rancid Pubis, Thanks to Candice and Fam, and Aborting Plans to Secede to the Trivia Club Super League!

Just outside of the Top Five (top five top five) with 30 points were The Questionables! With 26 points were Cookiefaced, followed by the M. Night Shaym-Aliens with 25 points. With 22 points on the night were the Buddy-less Travelers, followed by Your Producer (and mine) with 15 points. With 14 points was Team uno Persona, and with 12 points was CherLou!

Trivia Club tests your confidence in every winner you choose by asking you to rank them from 23 to 1. Correct picks are as always important, but Confidence is key! All that extra time and we almost forgot about our annual Extra Curricular enjoyment of the Academy Awards. It's time for the latest Oscar Confidence Pool!

What is an Oscar Confidence Pool, you might ask? It's simple enough.

The winner is the person with the most POINTS, with the number of correct picks breaking any ties. Remember, the number you write beside a category are the points you'll get if your selected winner
actually wins! The combination of Sound Mixing and Sound Editing into one category, Best Sound, made sense but it has also skewed the highest possible score. Hopefully they add Best Stunt Unit or Best Stunt Coordinator and/or Best Second Unit Director for next year to readjust to 300 possible points!

This is our NINTH ANNUAL Oscar Pool, and the eighth Oscar Confidence Pool! Saad K. was our first Oscar Pool victor in 2012/2013 with 17 correct picks! Matthew S. won the first Oscar Confidence Pool in 2013/2014 with a still unmatched 22 correct picks for 290 points! In 2014/2015 it was Oliver D. who won our third Pool with 20 correct picks for 270 points! In 2015/2016 the Oscar Confidence Pool was won by Mark P. with 18 correct picks for 257 points, and then Mark P. because our first Oscar Confidence Pool repeat winner in 2016/2017 with 17 correct picks for 242 points! In 2017/2018 the Oscar Confidence Pool saw our first winner in Rob M. who guessed fewer correct picks with 18, then the runner-up, but ultimately scored more points for the win with 275 points! 2018/2019 was a tough year to guess as Mark P. won for a third time with the lowest correct picks with 15 picks for 229 points! Mark P. would then repeat once again with a personal best 21 correct picks for 258 points in 2019/2020!


The results of our 2021 Oscar Confidence Pool are in, and we have a NEW Champion of our longest-running annual Extra Curricular activity! Congratulations to Christopher Douglas who finished with 18 correct picks out of the 23 possible picks this year, and scored 243 points out of the possible 276 points! Christopher picked either Actor or Actress correctly, but gave them 11 and 1 confidence points respectively. 14 points for Original Song were Christopher’s most points lost.

Our runner-up this year is last year’s repeat winner, and a four-time Confidence Pool Champ, Mark Piggott! Mark in fact picked more correct winners with 19 picks, and when the confidence points were added up it was for (a still impressive) 237 points. His biggest points lost, doubling more then any other of his picks, was the 20 points lost on Actor. This is also the second time Mark, who has always proved a strong performer in our Oscar Pool, has finished as the runner-up on points while getting more correct picks, last doing so in 2017/2018.

Your host and the writer of this post, Russel Harder finished in third place with 201 points on 16 correct picks. Actor was also the biggest loss on Russel for the night with 22 points lost. One point was put behind Documentary Short, in which Russel was also incorrect in picking. No competitors this year guessed Documentary Short correctly, the only category that stumped everyone.

Matthew Smith, our first Confidence Pool Champ in 2013/2014, finished fourth this year with 198 points on 14 correct picks. Matthew was the only person to correctly pick Actor, with everyone else going with Chadwick Boseman (including the evening’s producers). How ever the biggest loss of points was the 20 confidence points put into Actress, with the choice of Carey Mulligan.

In fifth place on the night, rounding out the Top Five (top five top five) was Johnny Hollick who finished with 179 confidence points on 14 correct picks. Other then our winner, Johnny was the only participant to place the six highest point amounts (23 to 18) on correct picks. Unfortunately, he would then guess incorrectly on the next four amounts (17 to 14).

Rounding out the field were the Buddy-less Travelers who picked 10 winners correctly for 154 points. They were the only participant to pick Best Song correctly. With 10 correct picks, they were cagey enough to put 7 of their 13 incorrect picks with 1 to 7 confidence points, but still put their most incorrect confidence in Actor for 23 points.

April 13th we celebrated the ninth anniversary of Trivia Club, and in doing so it felt only right to bring you the fifth annual Trivial Awards LIVE from the Trivia Clubhouse! As an added bonus, especially for your host, we did so over Zoom! This gave us the chance not only to add additional audio and video clues but also it was a chance to see all of your faces! Yes, every Tuesday you’re able to see me hosting trivia, but I’ve missed the chance to interact with the community. It proved the perfect anniversary present. Trivial Awards were handed out throughout the evening, the winners of which can be found here, while questions were asked! Ending the evening with the top score of 45 points was The Ghost of Bebe Rebozo! Runners-up on the night with 44 points was Down by the Bay! With 41 points, in third place, were 2 Fast 2 Curious. Rounding out the Top Five (top five top five) were a trio of teams with 39 points, including the Cunning Stunts, Cookiefaced, and Team Reince Priebus’s Rancid Pubis!

Just one point outside the top five, with 38 points each, were Thanks to Candice and The “You Have No Friends” Award-Winning Matthew Smith! With 37 points on the night were the M. Night Shaym-Aliens, while The Questionables finished with 35 points! With 34 points were the Travel Buddies, with 27.5 points was Your Producer (and mine), and Team Uno Persona ended the night with 10 points!
