 O ur 2 out of 3 Fall Classic has come to an end, with three teams especially feeling the heat on the east end of Toronto! In celebrating our fourth annual Christopher Hitchens Cup and four years at the friendly neighborhood Hitch, our first home away from the Original Home of Trivia Club, the big question was who would follow in the footsteps of PETE!, The Trusty Trumpets, and Tiny Tim’s…

In the lead after the first round of Trivia Classic were the Fighting Mongooses! They held a five and a half point lead on the next closest team The Man with the Candy! Two points behind them were Wookiee of the Year, who themselves had a point and a half lead on two teams! Not just any two teams but the two with the two highest scores in September for the Hitchens Cup, the M. Night Shaym-Aliens and the Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes! Though the Shaym-Aliens had a confidence in their play, it was because they didn't know who to really watch out for… with the Mongooses still so new, and the Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes, though a staple at Hitch Trivia Club and a former Hitchens Cup winner as part of the Trusty Rumpets… surprisingly not someone who had crossed paths often with Trivia Club's traveling house team! Laramie Cigarettes still held the overall lead! Lt. Dance was in sixth after the first round, known on this night as Dylan McDermott / Dermount Mulroney / Drillbit McDerby! Rounding out the field were newcomers the Maple Cowboys!

In round two, Game Show Games began with Countdown Takedown on this Hitchens Cup Finale night! The Man With The Candy got the first TOP TEN, while the M. Night Shaym-Aliens picked up eight points, the Fighting Mongooses grabbed six points, Wookiee of the Year nabbed four points, and the Maple Cowboys still took home two points! Survey Says proved a bit trickier with eight points being picked up by Wookiee of the Year, and Dylan / Dermount / Drillbit snapping up four points! Combo Breakdown then saw the M. Night Shaym-Aliens outlast the field and grab EIGHT POINTS as a result!

This then brought us to a Tri-Pardo that was not only important for the evening but for the month of competition at HitchLimited! With unlimited potential, it was the M. Night Shaym-Aliens who threw the first roll for a single point category! Yes, becoming the second team after Trivial Knowledge to roll both a 20 and 1 for a Tri-Pardo question! Dylan / Drermount / Drillbit took the second roll for an eleven point category! The third category was then rolled by the Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes for seventeen points! With twenty-nine points on the board, the M. Night Shaym-Aliens were able to grab seventeen points, while Wookiee of the Year grabbed twelve points! Nabbing sixteen points were The Man with the Candy, while both the Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes AND the Fighting Mongooses hit for the triple for the full twenty-nine in round three!

With the Finale ahead, this added up to any number of options on this night... and three possibilities for the Christopher Hitchens Cup!

The FM Possibility: The Fighting Mongooses go all-in, which they did in fact do, and if they got the Finale correct... then they would win the night, and would in fact win the Hitchens Cup, on their fifth night out at Trivia Club, by as much as nine points over the Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes!

The GF Possibility: The Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes go all-in, which he did in fact do, and as long as he got the Finale correct... and the Mongooses did not, then the Hitchens Cup was his! Leaving points on the board wouldn't help him against the Mongooses, but it could protect him against the M. Night Shaym-Aliens...

The NS Possibility: The M. Night Shaym-Aliens, heading into the Finale, needed two things to surpass the Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes... fifty-seven points or more and a little bit of luck. Fifty-seven points would give them a one point advantage on the field, on the Good Folks, but only if the Finale stumped everyone. The Shaym-Aliens bet nothing, because the fifty-seven points is what they needed and didn't want to lose even a point of it, and hoped.

In the Finale, just six and a half points separated the five teams below the Fighting Mongooses... and those Mongooses with their good team name went all-in along with the majority of the field. The out-lier of course were those M. Night Shaym-Aliens. The only other team to not wager it all, were The Man with the Candy, and with that decision... they ended up as runners-up on the night with the same point total that won them a Golden VHS just a few months prior!

Winning the night however, with fifty-seven points, the same fifty-seven points that they needed to surpass the Good Folks from Laramie... THE M. NIGHT SHAYM-ALIENS! Yes, Trivia Club's traveling house team, and in fact, now FIVE-TIME GOLDEN VHS CHAMPS at Hitch (making them the first team to join the Five Timers Club at three separate locations), TWENTY-TWO TIME GOLDEN VHS CHAMPS overall, and making the sixth most appearances at our east end location... were now also winners of the CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS CUP!

Over the second and third weeks of our Fall Classic, the M. Night Shaym-Aliens put together 199.5 points, giving them the annual championship at Hitch by just a SINGLE POINT over the Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes and his 198.5 points! That single point is now also the closest finish to any of our eleven annual events that we've had at any of our locations! The Fighting Mongooses finish in a solid third place, especially solid for a team that just joined Trivia Club in August and was a single question away from the Cup themselves, with 128 points!

Congrats once again to the M. Night Shaym-Aliens, a wonderful group of folks who deserve a hearty round of applause for winning an ever elusive and hard fought annual event... doing so with a Trivia Club-kinda mix of knowledge, gamesmanship, and luck, on their 118th overall appearance at Trivia Club to become the FOURTH and now reigning Christopher Hitchens Cup winners! Thank you as well to the Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes, Fighting Mongooses, Wookiee of the Year, and Lt. Dance for making multiple appearances during our Fall Classic Cup, and for everyone who came out Monday night and through out each of our four years at Hitch!
