& Q's of SNL
QUALITY: Sure,
he’s been hanging out a lot lately… but Alec Baldwin has a point, we kind of just enjoyed the best
episode of a pretty great season so far.
QUALITY: Not only
that, but off the momentum of Melissa McCarthy’s Spicer from last week and
continued importance and relevance of Baldwin’s clown king Trump this week… the
ratings were HUGE! You don’t need me to tell you that Baldwin was a good host
and that this was a good episode. Even Martin and Goodman, who he name dropped
in his monologue, are ace hosts who have hosted double-digit times but will
likely never make as many appearances on SNL then Alec Baldwin. So let’s keep
this short and jump right to the points.

Not only did Alec Baldwin deliver in all the ways big and small, and not only did Mikey Day become not just the first Featured Cast Member to lead the cast this season in points but also the first cast member in a non-Kate/Cecily/Beck capacity to do so... well, it shows that between Beck Bennett and Killam's writing partner, Saturday Night Live had a very good season not to be worried about losing Taran. Which actually reads a lot meaning then I intended it to, since Mr. Killam is a friend of the Fantasy League. But yes, not just those two things...
Melissa McCarthy was back and though it won't be as much a lightning rod moment as was her first appearance as Spicer, and that could be chalked up to it being the cold open and not another seemingly random utterly surprising moment twenty minutes... still, she killed it. I love that McCarthy has once again proven herself to be such an exceptional comedic performer that they can bring back a gum bit that though wasn't as amazing as the first time, was almost as adeptly handled, not to mention trusting her with a motorized lectern that very well could have killed Cecily Strong.
In THREE WEEKS, think of it as a second winter break before we race towards the end of Season 42, Octavia Spencer will be hosting! Though she was not drafted by anyone, much to our loss, the Hidden Figures star is someone I'm very much looking forward to seeing host!
