Charles Barkley actually did well as a host, though that doesn’t
change the fact that he either won this hosting gig in a bet with Lorne
Michaels, or Lorne just wanted to hang out with another millionaire. As good as
he is at hosting Saturday Night Live, and part of that has to be the fact that
the cast doesn’t have a surly old man available week in and week out. I know
they try to put Kenan in that role sometimes, but even if the former running
mate of Kel was there for another twenty years he’d still read like he was
barely twenty-five. Barkley on the show helped make some awkward comedy moments
and topical choices work more then they should have. My brain still can’t believe
that Charles Barkley will be a member of the Five Timers Club before another
five seasons are through.
On another note, Sterling K. Brown will be hosting Saturday Night
Live with musical guest James Bay! Sketches in which he cries is set at 2.5 over/under,
place your bets! The Not Ready for First Place Players will be getting some
host points, and could move into third if not second in the overall standings!
The Chase is still on to catch The Party Andersons for that Hartman Trophy!
