Saturday Night Live Fantasy League: Episode 43x07: Saoirse Ronan & U2

December 03, 2017

Saturday Night Live Fantasy League presented by Trivia Club, is a Fantasy League like no other. Like Fantasy Football for the comedy geek, participants draft cast members and prospective hosts before the start of the season and then are awarded points based of their performance through a scoring system. For additional points, before the start of each episode participants can guess which two songs they think the musical guest will perform. Since the beginning, this television institution has become the first step in the major leagues of comedy stardom, and with over forty seasons of familiar traditions, we’ve found a way to add math to comedy and somehow make that a fun game to play. Play at home,  or keep tabs on how we’re doing in our Saturday Night Live Fantasy League!

Saoirse (rhymes with inertia) Ronan was a game host, as likable as she was in Lady Bird (go see Lady Bird! With your moms!), while also giving Greta Gerwig a chance to finally get on Saturday Night Live! Ahem, I meant to say a game host, who wasn’t in any exceptionally memorable spotlight sketches but played very well within the cast and was not brought down by any of the flatter sketches. The only really flat moment of the episode was The New Kid sketch, which took the uncomfortable moments of the K-Mart sketch before it, and removed anything funny. Luke Null was given some room to move this episode, giving him a chance to play around in the Bobby Moynihan side of the show that has been lacking any residence… and The New Kid spotlight sketch set Null back more then anything. Still, we’re not even halfway through this season so there’s still room to play.

In Fantasy League news, The Not Ready for First Place Players continue to climb in the standings while The Ignorant Sluts continue to slide, after a respectively shaky and impressive start to the season.  The Party Andersons continue their moneyballed season to remember. Rob M’s solid roster of Cast members will be further pushed forward by not one but TWO HOSTS in the next two weeks before the Christmas break! Yes, on December 9th James Franco will be joined by musical guest SZA, which is arguably (as The Ignorant Sluts’ Matthew S. put it) the first episode of the season in which the musical guest is less famous then the host. Then on December 16th, Kevin Hart will be hosting with musical guests The Foo Fighters! Congrats to The Party Andersons for drafting Franco and Hart, and doing so in consecutive rounds no less!

Saturday Night Live Fantasy League VERSUS continues, with The Party Andersons getting the Bye this week, and a couple of match-ups going down to the wire!
