Kumail Nanjiani did an excellent job hosting what was potentially
the weakest written episode of the opening frame of episodes. There were still
some very strong sketches, and the show as a whole was strengthened by Nanjiani
not only being an ace comedian, but someone who clearly has sketch chops.
Ratings-wise, Nanjiani even has the highest-rated episode of the season so far,
even if it’s just a tenth of a share higher then Gosling in the premiere… it
still beats the premiere. As Matthew Smith of The Ignorant Sluts noted, “(We)
all keep underestimating the star power of Kumail Nanjiani and (he) keeps
reaping the benefits. Until now. Now it’s over.” Yes, our defending Hartman
Trophy winner has jumped out to an impressive lead, after nabbing the first TWO
available hosts. No rest for the wicked awesome though, as Rob M. and The Party
Andersons are sixty points behind in second AND The Party Andersons have the cast-advantage
of a solid three-person unit AND the next host on November 4th, 2017…
LARRY DAVID!
Larry David is hosting once again, because of course he is, now
with slightly less Bernie, likely a return of Kevin Roberts (one can hope) and
joined by a former host as a musical guest (and a draftee of the Holtzwomenn)
Miley Cyrus!
We’ll see how it all shakes out, in our Chase for the Hartman Trophy! And speaking of Chase,
how do the VERSUS results shake out this week?
