& Q's of SNL
QUALITY: For all
those who chose “Moves” as your Song Choice, which was a 18 of the 23 who made
picks, it WAS played it was just played during the first Aziz promo. What I’ll
call The Cinematic. By the way, I’m loving the Cinematic promos that have
started this year with the Cumberbatch hosted episode. An amazing use of an ace
production team, while also giving us wonderful little short comedy pieces like
this week’s Aziz walk, and the Emma Stone elevator bit from a few episodes ago.
QUALITY: Seriously
though, my favorite part of a stand-up hosting is the monologue… and Aziz did
not dissapoint, with an excellent monologue! Casual white supremists and the
lower case kkk are terms that are sticking with me, to describe those “alt”
assholes.
QUALITY: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
PROBLEMATIC: Michael
Che: somehow more unlikable then ever?
QUALITY: It might
not be David S. Pumpkins, but Peppy Ronnie and his crew were still excellently
weird characters in the same Kyle Roberts vein. Well done!
QUALITY: I see you
in your NWO Wolfpac shirt, Aziz!
QUALITY: “To Sir,
With Love” further proves the honest nerd heart that lives within this current
cast. I’m sorry if they aren’t your thing but damn it if I don’t enjoy ‘em. And
yes, I also realize it brings them to a point of self parody which could make
this a scene from Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, but I don’t care.

As happened with Louis C.K. last season, a strong stand-up presence in sketches, made for funny television but didn't warrant additional guest stars or extra wackiness to bolster the show. Which neither hurts nor hinders Saturday Night Live itself, though it does make for fewer points to be won by Fantasy League teams!
In TWO WEEKS the next host of Saturday Night Live will be Kristen Stewart, whose choice is interesting to say the least! As the February 4th host, with musical guest Alessia Cara, she will be promoting her horror movie Personal Shopper (though that doesn't go wide until March), and otherwise SNL will be riding on the personality of Stewart in a Bruce Willis or Ed Norton as host kind way... which is unexpected! So unexpected that she was not selected by any of the participants this year, in our Prospective Host Drafts! Here I was hoping Chappelle would be our only miss of the season (Casey Affleck who?), but there you go...
