Minding the P’s and Q’s of SNL

PROBLEMATIC: This was not a strong show. Chris Rock, surprisingly enough, was the weakest host of the season so far, not even having as much fun as Jim Carrey seemed to have. The edgy perspective of his monologue seemed more to be the words of a highly famous comedian who has been out of touch for a few years now. Of course this also means that the ratings were far and away the best so far this season. And sure, his controversial subject matters will get people talking...
QUALITY: The pre-taped sketches were far and away the most entertaining of the week, with GoProbe, Swiftamine, and the Bank Robbers sketch being heads and shoulders above their live counter-parts.

QUALITY: Che and Jost continue to improve their chemistry on Weekend Update, even if Pete
Davidson was uncharacteristically punchless as Himself.

What a quiet week. With the 8-minute jam from Prince in the
center of the show throwing off the traditional groove of the show, Chris Rock
looking old (and mostly played old, at that) and concepts running longer then
they maybe should have (as has been the habit for the most part at the start of
this 40th season), we were left with one of the most spread out
shows in the history of our SNL Fantasy League points-wise.
Well, spread out and also low scoring.
Woody Harrelson was announced as the next host, two weeks
from now, with Kendrick Lamar as the musical guest! One, I’m excited for more
Kendrick Lamar, and two, I’m excited for Harrelson to be coming back to SNL for
the first time since 1992. So yes, as much as I was disappointed with this
weeks episode, I can’t help but be excited for a good host choice and the best
musical guest so far this season! Congrats to The Future Mrs. Randy Goldman an their astute late round host pick, especially since we all thought you were either drunk and/or not paying attention at the time!
