 L adies and gentlemen, your second annual Trivial Awards! With five and a half years of Trivia Club to celebrate it was our pleasure to bring back the awards that are just being honest about how trivial this kind of thing is... to officially celebrate the best and brightest that the Greatest Game Show in Toronto has to offer! Yes, we joke but it's an honor to put on this star studded event at the penultimate edition of Trivia Club at Our Original Home of Cardinal Rule that saw the cream of the trivia crop compete for the Trivial Award Championship! The Academy of Popular Cultural Questions & Answers (again, a totally legit institution on par with the Hollywood Foreign Press at the very least), worked closely with Trivia Club host Russel Harder to determine the Awards and their winners, and amoungst it all a full night of game show goodness was also enjoyed!
After  Trivia Classic , in this our now annual All-Star game/Awards show/holiday party rolled into one, Electric Mayhem were continuing to make up for lost time (hey, the second rule of Trivia Club is that family comes first) as they held the lead on the field once again. The Shaym-Aliens were four and a half points back in second, while half a point behind them were David Bowie's Corporate Whores! The Cunning Stunts were a point and a half back from the Corp that ended up being their friendliest of Grand Championship rivals. One point back from the Stunts were Team Name, returning for only their second night at Cardinal Rule in six months. Yes, for a team that had appeared at 145 events at the location, many of the 100 that they had missed had come in the last year. In sixth place, just outside of that forty point first round range were Trivial Knowledge, while in seventh just a point behind were Last Place Team! Tied with the Team making their 46th consecutive appearance and 48th feature of the year, were The Good Folks from Laramie Cigarettes! Yes, making a pilgrimage west to experience the Original Home of Trivia Club while he could, was Hitch’s Beast from the East house team! Rounding out the field were Riley & Olivia, Lt. Dance’s name of choice for the night, as well as two new teams in Let's Get Trivial and Tinsel Turner!

Going into  Game Show Games  on this special night of celebration, we saw Countdown Takedown conclude with Electric Mayhem make a smart play for the TOP TEN! Then in Survey Says, the Mayhem grabbed another eight points, while Team Name grabbed the TOP TEN! Grabbing two and four points on a second Surveyed question, respectively, were Riley & Olivia and David Bowie's Corporate Whores! Finally in Combo Breakdown, pushing the High Score for 2017 to its limits, David Bowie's Corporate Whores was the last team standing for TWENTY POINTS, in the end outlasting Last Place Team who still were given a well deserved nine points.

Into  Tri-Pardo , the night was twisting towards record setting territory for multiple teams, chief amoungst them David Bowie's Corporate Whores who had broken down for themselves a one point lead, as well as that team now in second place the Electric Mayhem! Not to be out done of course were Last Place Team, the M. Night Shaym-Aliens, Team Name or the Cunning Stunts! Of course, with awards being given out, and the Golden VHS that Trivia Awards win in view, and a record in sight… it was a roll of the dice that could edge the scores ever higher in this Ico Era! The first question, the M. Night Shaym-Aliens rolled fifteen points on a category presented by the Electric Mayhem. The second question, Trivial Knowledge rolled eighteen points on a category that they themselves presented. The third question was chosen by Last Place Team who rolled fourteen points on a category presented by the Cunning Stunts! This made for a lucky forty-seven points up for grabs in the third round.

It was a triple kind of night, as a number of teams were ready and willing to take that swing! Gaining forty-seven points were Team Name, Last Place Team, the Shaym-Aliens, the Electric Mayhem and David Bowie's CW! Five teams! Gaining twenty-nine points from the first and third questions were the Cunning Stunts, while the Good Folks grabbed nineteen points and Trivial Knowledge grabbed fifteen points.

Of those five teams who swept the Tri-Pardo, one of them would falter on the Finale! Before then however, wagering had to be set. Of the teams that did not go all-in, Last Place Team left one and a half points on the board, while David Bowie's Corporate Whores held half a point back. Otherwise Team Name, The Good Folks AND the Cunning Stunts bet nothing. This was truly surprising, as Team Name had been within range to double up for more then 200 points… a feat they had never accomplished. They were not the only team to have a chance on doubling up on 100, as the M. Night Shaym-Aliens had a five point lead on Team Name heading into the Finale, and David Bowie's Corporate Whores still held that slight lead against the Electric Mayhem.

So it came down to the  Finale , and that one triple teams that fell at the last Awards show step were Team Name who as it correctly turned out, had nothing to lose. Otherwise? It was a personal best night for some of the, personally, best teams to ever play Trivia Club at Cardinal Rule or otherwise. Yes, on this penultimate night at Our Original Home, Last Place Team would finish with a personal best of 183.5 points and that would be a grand way to finish in fourth place. In third, also with a personal best of 218... were the M. Night Shaym-Aliens! Matching their personal best, and a high score mark that had held for more then a year and a half were the Electric Mayhem finishing as runners-up for the second straight week, this time with 235 points!

It would take a truly special result to make that happen, and once again another team was able to claw past one of the most successful teams in the history of Cardinal Rule at the last second, at the Combo, and winning by ONE AND A HALF POINTS, with a new personal high score of their own just three and a half points off of the All-Time High Score, 236.5 points to their name... NINETEEN TIME GOLDEN VHS CHAMPS, sixteen of those at Cardinal Rule, the fifth most at the location, your second annual Trivial Award winners... DAVID BOWIE'S CORPORATE WHORES!
