at Cardinal Rule: Cunning Stunts, April 19th 2017 TRIVIA CLUB CHAMPS

April 20, 2017

O n the penultimate night of the Grand Championship Grand Prix, our five teams in the Race for the Golden VCR came together at Cardinal Rule for the fifth night of the fifth annual celebration of Trivia Club in Toronto! Would the lower three teams be able to catch the top two? And what about the points that lay between the long-time rivals? The Grand Championship time of year, the long game, can change how the night is played!

Trivia Classic ended with the Electric Bastards holdings a six and a half point lead on the field, an excellent start even with the Cunning Stunts being the closest team to them! Five and a half points behind them were the M. Night Shaym-Aliens, who on this night were the Date Night Shaym-Aliens! Petite Pierre's Polyamorous Pipsqueaks Posing in a Prism Prison of Paralysis were in a strong forth place after the first round, followed close behind by Last Place Team!

In round two of Game Show Games, it was the Electric Bastards with the TOP TEN in Countdown Takedown, as they game showed their way around the Cunning Stunts cagey wagering of Petite Pierre's... own wage! In Survey Says, the Date Night Shaym-Aliens would grab the other TOP TEN of the second round, with the only team missing out on Survey Says points being Last Place Team! Last Place Team would continue an unlucky Game Show Game round with a blank in Combo Breakdown, though it proved to be quite the battle between the M. Night Shaym-Aliens and the Electric Bastards... which saw the Date Nighters hold off their family and friendly rivals for the SIXTEEN POINTS in the final Game Show as the last team standing!

This then led to a tough and tumble, rough and ready to rumble round three... with Petite Pierre's Polyamorous Pipsqueaks Posing in a Prism Prison of Paralysis making the most of Tri-Pardo and getting twenty-nine points for answering the first and second questions correctly! Yes, the first question was worth twelve points, the second question was worth seventeen points, and the third question was just a touch away from the top and was worth nineteen points! The Cunning Stunts held pat at twelve points, leaving them tied with the surging Petite Pierre's... before the Finale! Tri-Pardo was less kind to our other three teams, as the Electric Bastards lost five points, Last Place Team lost seven points, and the Date Night Shaym-Aliens lost twenty four points (so it was a good thing they had won twenty-eight points in round two!) but at least they had each other!

In the Finale, a variety of wagers went down... with the Cunning Stunts and Electric Bastards going all-in, thinking of the big picture and throwing caution to the night's result! Last Place Team kept five, just in case, while the M. Night Shaym-Aliens only bet half... and Petite Pierre's Polyamorous Pipsqueaks Posing in a Prism Prison of Paralysis played the biggest gambit and only bet ten points, not realizing their shared position in first place though very much remember the tough finishes of the last two live events!

When the dust settled, though the answer wasn't entirely easy, all teams had got the answer correct! This left the Shaym-Aliens tied with a third couple, Last Place Team! Triple Date Night! Petite Pierre's Polyamorous Pipsqueaks Posing in a Prism Prison of Paralysis finished in third, while the Electric Bastards were runners-up on the night, and surprising even themselves the winners and now FIFTY-SEVEN TIME Golden VHS Champs... the CUNNING STUNTS! In a hard won fashion, the Stunts won the night and now lead in the overall Grand Prix Standings by fifty-eight points over their nearest competitors the Electric Bastards!
Last Place Team 23 4 0 0 -7 (15) 35
Electric Bastards 42.5 10 2 6 -5 (55.5) 111
Cunning Stunts 36 8 6 5 12 (67) 134
Petite Pierre’s… 27 6 4 1 29 (10) 77
M. Night Shaym-Aliens 30.5 2 10 16 -24 (0.5) 35
