It's rare that only one Trivia Club event happens in a week. The last time this took place, was in March of 2015... and before that? February of 2014! Since Trivia Club expanded to our second and third locations, what once was the norm at our Original Home of Cardinal Rule has become few and far between. Speaking of things that were once the norm, it had been twenty-five weeks since the Electric Mayhem had won their last Golden VHS, their 32nd at Cardinal Rule. An eternity for an team, but especially for the only team to win more then 30 VHS at a single location!

A win on week twenty-six would not come easy however, as the Cunning Stunt had the lead after the first round of Trivia Classic (the second week in a row that they had the top score after the first round at Cardinal Rule), while the M. Night Shaym-Aliens (returning Champions, chillin' without a Dylan) were two points behind in second, while the Last Place Team were two points behind them in third place! Just half a point behind LPT were Team Name, with the Electric Mayhem a point behind in fifth, while still only being five and a half points off of first place! Rounding out the field were a pair of new coming teams, Tiger Beat and the Snorpy Greeters (though Tiger Beat did not continue into the second round)!

Game Show Games begun with a TOP TEN score in Countdown Takedown for the Cunning Stunts, while the Last Place Team grabbed eight points, and the M. Night Shaym-Aliens grabbed six! This extended the lead for the Cunning Stunts, while bringing the two other teams even, just four points behind them! Survey Says then proved to throw a curveball into the proceedings, as it was the Snorpy Greeters who nabbed the TOP TEN, while the Shaym-Aliens, Electric Mayhem, and Last Place Team also gained some points! Finally, our new spin on Combo Breakdown saw the highest number of points won yet, with the Last Place Team being the LAST TEAM STANDING with NINETEEN POINTS! With eight points, losing the competitive one-on-one were the Electric Mayhem! Picking up three points were the Snorpy Greeters, while the Cunning Stunts and M. Night Shaym-Aliens each picked up one! Team Name continued their recent bad luck in Game Show Games were a blank sheet in the second round.

Team Name were able to turn things around in Tri-Pardo however, with twenty-five points, while the Cunning Stunts slipped up on the fifteen point question to leave the third round with fifteen points! Snorpy Greeters and Last Place Team were both bit, but still gained five points, while the M. Night Shaym-Aliens and Electric Mayhem both hit for the triple and gained forty-five points for their troubles, shifting the two teams into the one-two spot respectively! In the Finale it was then a question of cagey wagering and correct answers, and ultimately it was the M. Night Shaym-Aliens who faltered on the final question while the Cunning Stunts finished as runners-up at Cardinal Rule for the first time this year (I can't believe it either), to a team that had not won since they became the first team to threepeat at the Original Home of Trivia Club on March 2nd!

Of course it would happen this way, on a good ol' fashioned one night of trivia this week. The symmetry is sweetly startling between these two teams, because even though the Cunning Stunts have forty-six to the Electric Mayhem's thirty-six Golden VHS tapes overall, at Cardinal Rule it's the Electric Mayhem with the ten win advantage, 33 VHS to the Cunning Stunts' 23 Championships at Cardinal Rule. Yes, 181 days after their thirty-fifth victory, the ELECTRIC MAYHEM have now won their THIRTY-SIXTH GOLDEN VHS, and did so by notching their thirteenth Sesquicentennial Mark as well in the process by finishing with 165 points! Just in time too, as team captain Kevin will soon have more pressing matters to worry about in fatherhood.

Congrats once again to the Electric Mayhem! White Men Can't Jump, but the Electric Mayhem are a slam... dunk? After all the forced gravitas above, I kinda dropped the ball on this last part. Thank you as well to all the great folks who competed Wednesday night, and were such excellent fun! We'll see you all again NEXT WEDNESDAY! No Wednesdays Off! And remember, it's not what you know... it's what you learn along the way!

Russel Harder hosts Trivia Club at Hitch (1216 Queen St East) every other MONDAY of the month, at Lou Dawg's near Ryerson (76 Gerrard St E) every TUESDAY, and Cardinal Rule (5 Roncesvalles Ave) every WEDNESDAY!
