Saturday Night Live Fantasy League: Episode 41x10: Adam Driver & Chris Stapleton

January 18, 2016

Minding the P’s and Q’s of SNL
QUALITY: Enjoy our Deep Thoughts on SNL podcast! Subscribe, listen, enjoy! It's still on-going, we swear! And heck, join in if you feel so inclined, through twitter!
QUALITY: Adam Driver was a good host, right? I’m not just thinking his because as your unbiased eye on the Fantasy League itself I may have a biased eye on the host thanks to a (pre-Force Awakens, mind you) man crush on Adam Driver. The guy has a good history of making his projects better, and even if he wasn’t given a lot of fun things to do in the biggest role of his career he certainly made the most of it.
QUALITY: Star Wars wasn’t leaned on as heavily as I feared. Even the monologue, which was short and MOSTLY centered around Force Awakens, still had it’s most interesting moment in Adam Driver as a young Marine (“I didn’t know they let 12-year olds into the Marine Corps”, indeed), plus even though the Undercover Boss parody is rightfully getting some post-show buzz it’s the Aladdin and Jasmine sketch that’s gotten the most attention!
PROBLEMATIC: The trouble is trying to decide were he lands in the overall Power Rankings for Hosts, as Unofficial as they may be. If he’s above Banks and Hemsworth, it’s just barely!
QUALITY: This might just be the best Weekend Update so far this season. Something about the simple fun of a good dick joke or three?

This will be a common theme within each Group this week, but the highest scoring team within the Hartman Group has Adam Driver and his Host points to thank! Driver scored one more point then the rest of The Future Mrs. Randy Goldman, but all together the 147 was more then enough to give them their first Group-topping spot! Also a common theme, with the points on the second song from this week's Musical Guest Chris Stapleton, The Ignorant Sluts keep the top spot within the Group and overall in the League for the G.E. Smith Award for Musical Guest points! Desolate Isle's 173 combined Host points so far this season help give him more then a 100 point lead in the Hartman Group, but doesn't quite make him the overall League leader for the Baldwin & Martin Award!

My Doll's Name Is Jenny tops the Radner Group for the first time! It's still a three-way battle for the Gilded Radner, however, with Lil Baby Aidy still flying highest thanks to those Amy Poehler points from before the Christmas break. The last two episodes were, in terms of average cast member points, two of the three lowest scoring episodes of the season so far. This makes those sweet Host points from Poehler, Fey, and this weeks Host Adam Driver, all the sweeter!

In ending 2015 and beginning 2016, Organic Wifi has built up quite the lead in the Myers Group for the Wayne's World Championship title! Adam Driver has also helped make Organic Wifi the highest scoring G8 team, as well! This helps make up for a team that would have otherwise been it's lowest scoring during these last two episodes. Once again Anthony's Joe Pesci Showmanship was on the doorstep on leading the Group, and though it was a Host (Chris Hemsworth) that had almost made him the last in the Myers Group to take the lead in an episode, this time it was a Host that kept his team from the top spot!

The Weekenders become the final team in the Poehler Group to gain an episode top score! Though Haders to the Left still leads, thanks in part to a team leading point winfall from Pete Davidson, their is no group closer from top to bottom then the Poehler Group (though Boyfriends Talk Show has some catching up to do, they ARE quite competitive in the G.E. Smith Award race -- SILVER LININGS!!!).

Once again, as you are no doubt aware, each Group this year will be awarded their own individual Championship. The Hartman Group has the Hartman Trophy to hand out for the third year, the Gilded Radner will be given out for the second year in the Radner Group, and the Myers Group has the newly coined Wayne’s World Championship. And we’ve got a even more fun news here at Fantasy League Central…

The SECOND of THREE Saturday Night Live Fantasy League-WIDE Awards! Yes, because of the nature of these awards, they are open to all teams at once! It should be no surprise, with all the additional information through-out the column that the second League-wide Award has to do with Host points!

Baldwin & Martin Award for Most with the Host
Standings (after Episode 41x10)
Named after the two men that have hosted Saturday Night Live more often any other other, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin! To the team with the most combined points from Prospective Hosts drafted. And let's catch-up with our other League-wide Award, for most Song Choice points!

G.E. Smith Award for Musical Guest Excellence
Standings (after Episode 41x10)
Named after Saturday Night Live’s legendary former Musical Director. To the team that has gained the most song choice points by seasons end. Tiebreakers are most second songs, most first songs, and overall correct song choices, in that order.

    1. The Ignorant Sluts - 86
    2. The Night Crawlerz - 80

    4. War Horse Can Dance - 73
    5. Boyfriends Talk Show - 72

    7. Skanky Little Prostitutes - 68
    9. Not A Strong Swimmer - 67
   10. This Team Has Everything - 66

Every Group is represented in the top ten for both awards! Bravo to Organic Wifi & The Ignorant Sluts on their respective leads. Congrats to the four teams that appear on both lists: Organic Wifi, The Night Crawlerz, Skanky Little Prostitutes, and War Horse Can Dance! Impressively, when the last update was give on the G.E. Smith Award, showing Miss Swan's Lowered Expectations in the lead, they have gained 2 more points in the last five episodes for a total of 62 points to fall out of the top ten entirely! Conversely War Horse Can Dance have made the biggest debut, being ranked fourth overall in the League after not being on the prior list.

We have at least one more League-wide to announce on the 15th episode, and will of course be open to any and all ideas and considerations for awards with fun names. Send ‘em in! #SNLFantasyAwards

This Saturday the 23rd, Ronda Rousey will be hosting SNL with musical guest Selena Gomez! More people picked Gomez to host then picked Ronda Rousey, though the former UFC Champion isn’t without an audience willing and ready to see what she can do in her first incredibly public appearance since said Championship was lost! The Not Ready For First Place Players in the Hartman Group and Harry Cary’s BBQ Moon Ribs in the Belushi Group picked Rousey and will be VERY happy with the additional points, as the hosts in these last two episodes at least have been making up the lions share of points for their teams!

Instead of a gif of Rousey being kicked in the face (no one needs to see that) enjoy this pantomime, which is elegant, violent, and ultimately ridiculous.

I'll say this, she can make the story of a vicious beating likable in a three second span!
