Saturday Night Live Fantasy League: Episode 41x05: Elizabeth Banks & Disclosure

November 15, 2015

QUALITY: Enjoy our Deep Thoughts on SNL podcast! Subscribe, listen, enjoy! And heck, join in if you feel so inclined, through twitter!
QUALITY: As was SO VERY MUCH NEEDED, this episode was fun. It may not have been substantial enough to be memorable in the long-term, but I’ll take an Amy Adams or Drake-kinda Host every week of the season!
QUALITY: Elizabeth Banks was very much game as Host, giving the second-best hosting performance so far this season. Second, because I don't see anyone topping Tracy Morgan on the Host Unofficial Power Rankings. “First Got Horny 2 U” is on the Season Best-Of DVD, no doubt, for SNL41.
PROBELMATIC: With five of a suspected 21 episodes, are more or less through the first quarter of the 41st season of SNL, so let's get stat happy! Why is this problematic? Because if I don’t word these stats correctly, they won’t make any sense.
QUALITY: Kate McKinnon is the top scoring cast member for the Elizabeth Banks hosted episode. Her point total ties Vanessa Bayer's total in episode two for the lowest top cast score of the season so far. Thanks in part to a lower high score, and a good mix of sketch work, Elizabeth Bank’s episode five has the third highest average cast score, proving quite the even mix of points, especially within the Rep cast.
QUALITY: Coming as no surprise, Taran Killam has gained the most points so far this season with 284 over five episodes (he has also been the highest scoring cast member in three of the first five episodes). Kate McKinnon has 269 points, while Kenan Thompson has 212 points. Cecily Strong has 204 points, standing as the fourth highest scoring cast member, while Moynihan is fifth with 176 points.
PROBLEMATIC: Conversely Jon Rudnitsky has scored 92 points over the first five episodes (including the 40 points in his first episode), making SNL’s newest cast member SNL Fantasy League’s lowest scoring cast member. However he is only 9 points below Pete Davidson.
QUALITY: Disclosure brings their friends, and Lorde, as well as Sam Smith, are able to rock out on club tracks. Along with Sia last year, SNL has been good at featuring enjoyable bangers so far this season. Things will no doubt get a bit moodier next week, but as long as Adele enjoys herself at least a little, we won’t have the third crying Musical Guest in six episodes.

Desolate Isle's 668 is also the highest scoring G8 (eight team group, and therefore three cast members per team) team. However, Spooky Behavior still gained the most points in the episode, making them the fifth team to do so in the Group, once again showing quite the parity amongst both G8 Groups. Unsurprisingly two of the three teams not to attain the highest point total in an episode are the only teams not to break 500 points in the Myers Group. The other team? Dan Akroyd Rage, who due to the utmost of consistency is third overall!

Heather From Work took the overall lead back once again, with a ten-point lead on Haders to the Left! Boyfriends Talk Show may have mixed up the order of their song choices (as a fair number of teams did this week), but they hold onto the top spot for most points for Song Choices in their Group!

Now, as has been noted, each Group this year will award their own individual Championship. The Hartman Group has the Hartman Trophy to hand out for the third year, the Gilded Radner will be given out for the second year in the Radner Group, and the Myers Group has the newly coined Wayne’s World Championship. No doubt Groups will give their year-end titles a true name as we continue along Season 41, but we’ve got a bit of fun news here at Fantasy League Central…

Introducing the FIRST of THREE Saturday Night Live Fantasy League-WIDE Awards! Yes, because of the nature of these awards, they are open to all teams at once! It should be no surprise, with all the additional information through-out the column that the first League-wide Award has to do with Song Choice points!

G.E. Smith Award for Musical Excellence
Named after Saturday Night Live’s legendary former Musical Director. To the team that has gained the most song choice points by seasons end. Tiebreakers are most second songs, most first songs, and overall correct song choices, in that order.

Keep an eye out, in another five weeks, for the next League-wide award! NEXT WEEK, Saturday Night Live will be hosted by Matthew McConaughey, with Musical Guest Adele! Congrats to Samantha, GM of The Vondrukes, for being the only Fantasy Leaguer to have drafted McConaughey as a Prospective Host! Currently sitting in seventh in the Myers Group, things are suddenly looking up for that particular second-year team!

I'm sure his Jim Carrey impression will be spot on!
