Saturday Night Live Fantasy League: Episode 41x20: Drake

May 16, 2016

Minding the P’s & Q’s of SNL
QUALITY: You’ll always be memes to me, Drizzy.
QUALITY: Honestly though, Drake did VERY well on this episode. Of course it's known that his charm and his out-right Canadian earnestness also allowed for him to be very game this episode, and the writing for the most part supported Drake as well. He appeared in everything, save for the Cold Open which was ONLY saved by Bobby Moynihan (who also had an ace show between that, and American Ninja Warrior). Your milage may very on Sexy Kinda Evening, but I enjoyed it! Spring Fling may have been the weakest note, but speaking of memes... Drake dressing up as Hollywood Hulk Hogan is a conversation starter.
PROBLEMATIC: When it comes to political satire, SNL is still dead in the water. They have been since the Trump hosted episode. They STILL don't know how to approach him as a character, but at least Michael Che, and to a lesser extent Colin Jost, are digging into him on Weekend Update. Even the Hillary/Bernie material has been dangerously skewed. Dangerous in terms of bias, of course.
PROBLEMATIC: We made it TWENTY episodes, and half of our Groups do not have names for their awards! Well, wait no more! And enjoy below, the companion pieces to this years already announced Wayne's World Championship, the Gilded Radner in its second year, and the Hartman Trophy in its third!
QUALITY: Speaking of awards, two of the three League-wide awards have come down to the wire with the G.E. Smith Award for Musical Excellence being decided on this very episode!
PROBLEMATIC: We aren’t talking enough about this show, are we? Drake is once again a top three host and further proves that he is an inevitable Five Timer.
QUALITY: Speaking of things that Drake should be proud of... Raptors win, y'all!
QUALITY: Join Brian Edwards, of the SNL Fantasy League team The Team You Wish You Hadn’t Started A Conversation With At A Party, on our Deep Thoughts on SNL podcast! Subscribe, listen, enjoy! Deep Thoughts, when they can, also tweets during the show, so join in on twitter!

Save for half a season of Cecily Strong, no Weekend Update anchor is more known as a performer then Amy Poehler. Yet in helping bridge the gap between Tina Fey and Seth Myers, Amy Poehler is likely best known for the Update desk and thus the winner of the Poehler Group will take home the Weekend Warrior Award! Also supporting the fact that this Fantasy League is all for working for the weekend!

  5. The Weekenders - 2729
  6. Boyfriends Talk Show – 2452

And now...

Your Saturday Night Live Fantasy League-WIDE Awards!

Eddie Murphy Award for Leader of the Pack
Standings (after Episode 41x20)
Named after the comedian who out-paced his fellow cast members by such a large margin that he still stands as the only cast member to host while part of the cast. To the team that has attained episode high-score in their group the most amount of times. Tiebreaker is the combined points in which they won over the closest team per highest-score episode.

    1. Murry’d With Children (w/ 8 episodes)
    1. The Night Crawlerz (w/ 8 episodes)
    3. Lil Baby Aidy (w/ 7 episodes)
    4. Skanky Little Prostitutes (w/ 6 episodes)
    5. Billion Dollar Murrays (w/ 5 episodes)
    5. Haders to the Left (w/ 5 episodes)
    5. International Nasty Girl$ (w/ 5 episodes)
    5. The Not Ready For First Place Players (w/ 5 episodes)
    5. Not a Strong Swimmer (w/ 5 episodes)
    5. Organic Wifi (w/ 5 episodes)

Lil Baby Aidy has an outside shot at forcing the tie-breaker, but ultimately this comes down to The Night Crawlerz in the Belushi Group, and Murry'd With Children in the Farely Group! Thanks to a late surge that saw Murry'd With Children top five of the last seven episodes, they even look to have the momentum over The Night Crawlerz and their excellent Fantasy League season. Now let’s check back in on that choice Host award! Remember that Fred Armisen will still be garnering Host Points in the Season 41 Finale for War Horse Can Dance, Effie Villalopolus' Professional Complainers, and The Night Crawlerz. War Horse Can Dance needs 101 points from Fred Armisen (as they have the tie-breaker, with the Kanye West guest-spot), can they do it?!

Baldwin & Martin Award for Most with the Host
Standings (after Episode 41x20)
Named after the two men that have hosted Saturday Night Live more often any other other, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin! To the team with the most combined points from Prospective Hosts drafted. Tiebreakers are total number of hosts, number of episode with host points, number of guest hosts, in that order.

    1. Organic Wifi - 357
    2. Skanky Little Prostitutes - 323
    3. War Horse Can Dance - 256
    4. The Vondrukes – 211
    5. Lil Baby Aidy - 203
    6. The Night Crawlerz - 196
    7. Desolate Isle – 188
    8. Effie Villalopolus' Professional Complainers - 168
    9. Lazy Sunfeys - 166
    10. Total Bastard Airlines – 159

And finally let's catch-up with our other League-wide Award, once more, for most Song Choice points!

G.E. Smith Award for Musical Guest Excellence
Standings (after Episode 41x20)
Named after Saturday Night Live’s legendary former Musical Director. To the team that has gained the most song choice points by seasons end. Tiebreakers are most second songs, most first songs, and overall correct song choices, in that order.

    1. The Ignorant Sluts - 195
    2. Billion Dollar Murrays - 165
    2. Skanky Little Prostitutes - 165
    4. Organic Wifi - 145
    5. Not A Strong Swimmer – 144
    6. The Dark, Clenched Hole of Evil - 141
    7. War Horse Can Dance - 138
    8. Heather From Work – 125
    9. Desolate isle – 122
    10. The Team You Wish You Hadn’t Started A Conversation With At The Party – 120

The Dark, Clenched Hole of Evil rose from off the list, to the 6th spot on the G.E. Smith Award list, but that can only be the subplot on this episode, as The Ignorant Sluts have clinched the first official G.E. Smith Award an episode early! They've got a 30 point lead on the two closest competitors, with no team being able to grab more then 15 points next week. They may have fallen out of contention for a third-straight Hartman Trophy early on this season, but they don't end #SNL41 empty-handed! Congrats to Matthew Smith and The Ignorant Sluts! Come back next week for a more complete breakdown of the G.E. Smith Award!

Speaking of next week, it's the SEASON FINALE of Saturday Night Live, Courtney Barnett is the Musical Guest with your Host... Fred Armisen! I'm still coming to terms with this, and it's not just because I personally blanked on picking a host this season. Though that's probably part of it. ONE WEEK LEFT, y'all!
