Summer Movie Wager 2015 RESULTS

September 08, 2015

In the final weeks of Trivia Club’s third Summer MovieWager, a tradition brought to our attention by the dearly-departed Totally Rad Show and the fine folks at /Film, there were a few box office battles that looked to change the shape of the game. Would Straight Outta Compton have enough steam to do what Guardians of the Galaxy did last year, and charge into the top ten? Would San Andreas be able to hold it’s slight lead about the highly-regarded Mad Max: Fury Road, a film that had opened a few weeks later then The Rock-topped disasterpiece?

The answers were yes, and yes! San Andreas held strong against Mad Max: Fury Road, and even widened it’s lead north of a million more dollars! And Straight Outta Compton? It knocked Spy straight outta the top ten!

What we at Trivia Club hadn’t accounted for, however, was Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, full disclosure: a past sponsor of Trivia Club, rolling from 9th on the Summer Movie Wager standings to 6th place by the end of Labor Day weekend! That alone, and the ripple effect it had on the participants of the Summer Movie Wager made the biggest difference of all! It changed the point totals of everyone involved, and by stopping just about 1.2 million dollars short of Pitch Perfect 2… it also crowned a NEW Summer Movie Wager winner! Though before that person is revealed, thank you all once again for taking part in one of Trivia Club's favorite extra-curricular pop culture events!

Oh, and you’re likely wondering what might have happened if a tie had taken place? To make it official, for new summer, here are how the Summer Movie Wager tie-breakers work: 1) getting 1 and/or 10 correct, 2) the number of dead-on picks from 2 thru 10, 3)  the number of picks only one spot away, 4) the number of picks only two spots away, 5) most correct picks including Dark Horses, and 6) box office of highest pick not in the summer’s top 10! If after this, everything is still tied, then the winner’s trophy will be shared!

Though yes, our THREE runners-up (speaking of ties) are Trivia Club regulars in some way, shape, or form. The first runner-up for the second year in a row, Rob M. is a member of Golden VHS winning Definitely Not 3 Kids Hiding Under A Trenchcoat, Golden VCR Grand Champions the Sexy Dumpster Teens, a Saturday Night Live Fantasy League participant for the third year running, and is the host of Trivia Club’s Deep Thoughts on SNL podcast (not to mention co-host of Nerdist's Clonecast), the second runner-up is Peter M. better known as PETE! to the Trivia Club crowd, a 25-plus Golden VHS winner with multiple teams, most notably The Bastards, as well as by himself! The third runner-up needs no introduction, by I’ll give it to him anyway, he’s the inaugural winner of Trivia Club’s Fall TV Death Pool, the prior winner of the Summer Movie Wager, and a nearly 20-time Golden VHS winner with The Bastards, as well as a member of the Golden VCR Grand Champions the Electric Bastards… it’s Patrick D!

Our NEW Summer Movie Wager winner, writes his own reviews on movies both new and old, and enjoys film discussion in general at cinefilesreviews.com, he can also be found on twitter at @TheAlexBrannan
