Saturday Night Live Fantasy League: Episode 43x11: Jessica Chastain & Troye Sivan
January 21, 2018
Saturday Night Live Fantasy League presented by Trivia Club, is a Fantasy League like no other. Like Fantasy Football for the comedy geek, participants draft cast members and prospective hosts before the start of the season and then are awarded points based of their performance through a scoring system. For additional points, before the start of each episode participants can guess which two songs they think the musical guest will perform. Since the beginning, this television institution has become the first step in the major leagues of comedy stardom, and with over forty seasons of familiar traditions, we’ve found a way to add math to comedy and somehow make that a fun game to play. Play at home, or keep tabs on how we’re doing in our Saturday Night Live Fantasy League!

Like the week before with Sam Rockwell, the Jessica Chastain
hosted episode brought a likable and capable host to a show which had bright
spots sure but was mostly uneven. Two Tide Pod jokes in the first ten minutes
just feels like a warning shot. Giving Jessica Chastain a song and a dance
monologue wasn’t a good sign either, as the singing monologue for aaaanyone is
always a pre-curser to a coasting episode. Even the League was a little checked
out this week, with only myself and Matt picking song choices for our vlogger
slash pop star! As much as it wasn’t my kind of music however, it’s pretty
wonderful to see an LGBTQ performance giving the same boring sheen of a Salina
Gomez presentation. Part of progress is in the meh of it all, the wet hair and
wind machines of the presentation.
VERSUS RESULTS continue, with War Horse Can Dance vs. Holtzwomenn, and more!
Next week, in this trio of hosts to begin 2018, is yet another
highly likable choice… with the one big difference being not only did we choose
him (well done, Matthew!) but he also may be the best cast member EVER of
Saturday Night Live (depending on what your definition of best is, other
options are of course Eddie Murphy and Phil Hartman), yes Will Ferrell is hosting the January 27th episode
of Saturday Night Live with musical guest Chris Stapleton! Ferrell will be
hosting Saturday Night Live for somehow only the fourth time.
LAST EPISODE: SAM ROCKWELL
NEXT EPISODE: WILL FERRELL
