Saturday Night Live Fantasy League: Episode 43x05: Tiffany Haddish & Taylor Swift

November 13, 2017

S aturday Night Live Fantasy League presented by Trivia Club, is a Fantasy League like no other. Like Fantasy Football for the comedy geek, participants draft cast members and prospective hosts before the start of the season and then are awarded points based of their performance through a scoring system. For additional points, before the start of each episode participants can guess which two songs they think the musical guest will perform. Since the beginning, this television institution has become the first step in the major leagues of comedy stardom, and with over forty seasons of familiar traditions, we’ve found a way to add math to comedy and somehow make that a fun game to play. You’re welcome.

This week’s episode was the rebound that was needed after Larry David. The Larry David brought out the kind of cynicism that can creep into Saturday Night Live. Also I was sick last week so I don't necessarily have rose-colored glasses. Though Tiffany Haddish’s hosted episode wasn’t perfect, the Beck and Kyle Best Friends sketch was for instance a huge misstep for what had itself been an otherwise enjoyable and unexpected story, Haddish showed the power of a game stand-up comedian hosting a comedy show. It’s simple math, but Tiffany Haddish was an ace host on a show that used her energy well, even if it didn’t give her exceptional material to work with at times. New cast members Heidi Gardner, who really broke through last week, and Chris Redd, who continues to shine with quick chances at big impressions, are showing their potential more and more each week. Luke Null is for the moment also there.

Keep an eye out for our Featured Draft, as we still may Elvis Costello before Christmas!

Next week we close out this second trio of episodes with November 18th host Chance the Rapper and musical guest Eminem! It's still such a weird combo, but I am very much excited to see what Chance the Rapper is up for, as a HOST of Saturday Night Live!

And the VERSUS results for the week?
