It was a family affair, as a lot of long-time teams, notable regulars, and returning Champions, were on hand for something of an unexpected reunion in the middle of summer! Yes, thanks to the Golden VHS, you could even say we had an all-time team there in spirit!

On this night, teams were competing for the Usual Suspects on Golden VHS! After the first round of Trivia Classic, we had a returning David Bowie's Corporate Whores in the cat bird seat with a two and a half point lead on the Cunning Stunts! One point behind them were Pepsi Presents: Trivia Team (the team Human Sadness returning with a shiny new sponsorship deal), with two-time reigning Golden VHS Champions the Last Place Team in fourth, and the M. Night Shaym-Aliens one point behind them in fifth! One point behind them in sixth were the returning Electric Mayhem! The returning Team Name rounded out the field in seventh.

This was only the second time since the 100th Trivia Club that the Cunning Stunts and Electric Mayhem, once inseparable in their rivalry, had gone head to head on a non-Grand Championship Grand Prix night. Speaking of, Team Name wanted to win the Usual Suspects so they could hold it against their first rivals in the Unusual Suspects, who they hadn't competed against since the week after the 2015 Grand Championship! Placing the rest of the field, then? The M. Night Shaym-Aliens look to have a long-held respect for Team Name's longevity, and a new found rival in the recently arrived as Champs, Last Place Team! Pepsi Presents: Trivia Team are still too new, with three appearances in seven weeks, but certainly proved dangerous after a competitive Trivia Classic... while David Bowie's Corporate Whores? With the reputation built from our 2015 Grand Championship Grand Prix, they've become the team to beat! Impressively repositioning longer standing teams to view them as the Big Bad Wolf (though they're actually quite nice, don't get me wrong) in just twenty or so appearances.

With that in mind, we entered into Game Show Games with all the banter and trash talk one would hope for (especially between the Stunts and Mayhem, Team Name and the Shaym-Aliens), with David Bowie's Corporate Whores grabbing the TOP TEN in Countdown Takedown! Last Place Team and Team Name were left off the board in the first Game Show! In Survey Says, Team Name also missed out on points, as did the Shaym-Aliens and Pepsi Presents: Trivia Team! The Cunning Stunts however were able to pick-up the TOP TEN! Then in Combo Breakdown, David Bowie's Corporate Whores outlasted the Electric Mayhem and Cunning Stunts for the FIFTEEN POINTS!

This then led us to Tri-Pardo, and a sudden shift in the game! The M. Night Shaym-Aliens were blanked on our triplette of Q's, while Pepsi Presented themselves fifteen points, and Last Place Team as well as David Bowie's CW were able to grab the ten point answer! This left Electric Mayhem to grab twenty points, while the Cunning Stunts grabbed thirty points to put them into the lead! Team Name made up for a quiet round two with a forty-five point swing, as the only team that swept the Tri-Pardo! This brought Team Name within five and a half points of David Bowie's, who themselves were four and a half points behind the runners-up of the Grand Championship Grand Prix, though the winningest team of all-time at Trivia Club, the Cunning Stunts!

So it came down to the Trivia Finale! Bowie left four and a half points on the board, while the Cunning Stunts went all-in! The Electric Mayhem kept two points, while Team Name kept them all! Last Place Team wagered sixteen points, while the M. Night Shaym-Aliens wagered five. Ultimately, all the blind maths didn't matter on this night, as the Cunning Stunts got the Finale question CORRECT!

Yes, those CUNNING STUNTS walked away with their FORTY-FIFTH GOLDEN VHS! It's their 23rd at Cardinal Rule, and the sixth time they've crossed the Sesquicentenial Mark, as they finished the night with 156 points! David Bowie's Corporate Whores finished in second, while the Electric Mayhem finished in third!

Congrats to the Cunning Stunts one more time, and thank you to all the excellent folks who came out to Cardinal Rule and help continue to make Trivia Club such a fun community to be a part of! We'll see you all again NEXT WEDNESDAY for more Trivia Club! Remember, it's not what you know... it's what you learn along the way!
