Trivia Club is a community.
It’s the love of knowledge, mixed with competition, and over
three years it has brought together teams and teams of participants that enjoy
the pursuit of knowing things, while also learning along the way!
Now, since Trivia Club is a community, competition has
spread across all of Trivia Club’s locations both former and current. Teams that have called one
location home have visited other locals, and life has even led long-time teams
to switch their base of operations. With even our newest location, at Lou
Dawg’s Ryerson, having recently celebrated one year of competition in early
March, each location has its own distinct history.
On April 13th, a Friday in 2012, Trivia Club
debuted at Cardinal Rule. The show began at 10PM, and it ended late. The more
things stay the same, the more they change. Since our one year anniversary, the
Grand Championship has been awarded to the annual winners of a multi-night
event at Cardinal Rule. With our trust in & take chip system, Sam Rockwell
lost big on the first night of the first Grand Championship but would come back to win the inaugural event on
the final night two weeks later. In 2014 it grew to a Grand Prix across four
nights, including a night at Handlebar in Kensington Market, and a night at
Hitch in Leslieville, but beginning and ending at Cardinal Rule. Battling
against the only other team to make it to all four nights, The Sexy Dumpster
Teens feat. Electric Mayhem defeated The Cunning Stunts.
Once again in 2015, the Grand Championship begins and ends
at Cardinal Rule in celebration of Trivia Club’s Three Year Anniversary, but in
2015 the Grand Prix reaches across eleven nights of trivia all April long! The
schedule is as follows:
With Cardinal Rule being the Original Home of Trivia Club, a
proud tradition has arisen of record wins, and other notable accomplishments
amongst the longest running teams. Cardinal Rule originated teams, such as The
Cunning Stunts, The Electric Mayhem, and Team Name, first journeyed outside of
home, with the Cunning Stunts wins at Handlebar, and Hitch during the 2014
Grand Championship Grand Prix breaking down walls. Team Name would also continue
the broader competition, taking home a Golden VHS later in 2014 at Hitch, while
members of Electric Mayhem would more subtly integrate themselves into an
original Lou Dawg’s Ryerson team, The Bastards, former a ground work that would shape the 2015 Grand Championship team The Electric Bastards.
PETE, at first without a home base, would win with different
teams and by himself, amongst most of Trivia Club’s locations, before settling
in at the newly established Lou Dawg’s Ryerson trivia show. PETE would
first compete against, and then later team with The Bastards. It was not The
Bastards feat. PETE who would be the first to take home a Golden VHS away from
Lou Dawg’s Ryerson however, but instead the people’s champions from that location… yes,
I’m talking about Treasure Butt, whose victory at Trivia Club’s 100th
edition at Cardinal Rule, and a second win a week later signified a potential sea
change in the competition between the two locations.
That is, if the Cunning Stunts shift from being Cardinal Rule’s
winningest team to become a threat to The Bastards dynastic ambitions at Lou Dawg’s
Ryerson, didn’t do that already. The Stunts would go on to become the first team to win a Golden VHS at Cardinal Rule, Hitch, AND Lou Dawg's Ryerson! It was a feat soon matched by PETE on his own, but no other team as of yet (although Team Name is just a win at Lou Dawg's Ryerson away)!
Finally, in the week before April, a representative from
Hitch finally played at another location… and not only did the Trusty Rumpet’s
Westy team compete… but they won the Golden VHS at Cardinal Rule! It would seem that Hitch’s
factions are not to be slept on, in this Grand Prix. I could talk of more
teams, of the M. Night Shaym-Aliens and their quest for a fifth Golden VHS over
three locations, The Unusual Suspects' mark for history (but always only during
the colder months), of Cardinal Rule’s newest regulars in The Redacted! The
community shifts, and changes, and the community evolves and expands!
More histrionics are for another time, however. Just have a
drink with our Trivia Club host at a live event, and he will no doubt tell you more!
What does the 2015 GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP GRAND PRIX entail?
- All ELEVEN Trivia Club events during the month of April are open to all competition.
- Your team’s HIGHEST SCORE at Cardinl Rule, Hitch, and Lou Dawg’s Ryerson, will be added together.
- Your team’s next highest score at ANY of our three locations will be added. All negative point totals will be valued as zero points.
- The highest FOUR-PART score will win the GOLDEN VCR!
And your GRAND CHAMPIONS after the dust has settled on our 2015 GRAND PRIX, are..
THE ELECTRIC BASTARDS! |
